The U vs. LSU

Submitted by MichiganFan1984 on

Anyone watching? Intensity level is high so far. Burrow is starting for LSU. Hoping to see the Turnover Chain a few times. It is great TV and the guys on the team seem to love it.

First year starters starting in that environment for their first game on a big stage against a quality opponent for the first game of the season no less against a team with a half a dozen future NFL starters per the pundits, don't usually look good. The U was bringing the pressure on nearly every down as well trying to rattle said first year starter, is what good DC. LSU adjusted for that hence the long run for the TD.

You had to be impressed with Burrow getting the U's DL to jump off sides twice in the first half keeping drives alive? Plus i don't think he had any TO's. The long pass he threw @ the pylon was probably a TD, good pass imo. He's in the same boat as Shea, new teammates, new coaching staff, new playbook without the benefit of spring practice BTW. That's a lot to digest in 4 weeks. Just like Shea, they should improve week to week as the season progresses.

Imagine the quarterbacks who've been on your team for several years being coached enough to play for the team instead of having transfers come in because the quarterbacks who've been recruited and coached aren't good enough to start for some reason.  I'm still struggling to get my mind around that tbh.

The quarterback whisperer in Michigan?  Mark Dantonio

Harbaugh got here in 2015 too late to recruit a QB in first class. He was left Speight and Bellamy. Bellamy then left. He brought in O’Korn and Rudock as stop gaps. JOK being so poor set this program back. Speight was an average talent who was solid as a starter his first season.

His first recruited QB is a sophomore. He hasn’t progressed. That happens.  He then brought in a more proven commodity as a transfer and a top talent both of whom looked solid Saturday.

Again, people qucikly forget how shitty the cupboard was, and what a dumpster fire our losses and MAC teams taking us to the wire was.

Harbaugh simply over-acheived in year 1 and 2. And he was rightly given a lot of credit.

However, the lack of OL recruiting/development absolutley falls on Harbaugh--at it's a major L--also, not yet having a 230lb smash-mouth RB (let alone a stable of them) is also extremely disappointing. The WRs are fine (Black injury certainly hurst, TEs too, Defense has been a strong-point as whole. RB, QB, and OL have been disappointing (so basically the offense).

QBs are worth their weight in gold (hell even the NFL can't manage more than 10-15ish good QBs at any one time), so if Peters is a bust but McCaffrey turns out, then he's still batting way above average (think of how many long-tenured coaches have QBs go down and subsequently tank the season).

It's still on the OL, and the real anger/frustration stems from the doubt that OLs suddenly fix themselves (though it has been known to happen).

FWIW- this is a rare game where both teams uniforms are of complementary colors.

When I was in NO earlier this year I was surprised to see zero interest in the Tigers- every sign, sticker, shirt was about the Saints. I wonder if anyone down there is even watching this game.

LSU does look better- maybe the LSU coach/Brady Hoke comparisons are off the mark.

Is anyone else worried that a QB that couldn’t sniff the field for Ohio State, is now starting for LSU seems to be doing pretty well against a decent defense in Miami?

How much better was Haskins than Burrow for the latter to leave his childhood team?

I like this game.  Both sides uniforms look cool. And it's nice to see LSU's offense, it has cadence to it. Who would of thought that would be seen in LSU's offense. But then also, Miami lost a lot of players this off season.Cadence in an offense is nice to see because I haven't seen cadence in Michigan's offense since Jedd Fisch.

This weekend has really demonstrated how asinine it is that there are preseason rankings that are actually posted on the scores during the week one games.  Make the rankings after week one.  Even if everyone knows they are meaningless until the CFP ranking, it's just a lame hype tool.  Also can we unpin the snowflake threads?  Does anyone really want to look at that garbage anymore?

When I read this post, I assumed the post meant:

OSU gave LSU a smart QB who can manage the game and make some plays. The way LSU played last night, they could make the playoffs (yes I know its early) because they have a decent QB to go with a solid ground game, good O-Line, athletes all over the place, and a very good defense. That could come back to bite OSU in a playoff scenario.
