What is he talking about about “it’s been going on for three games”? What has been going on for three games?
Losing
You win the interwebs for the day!
Hahahahhahaha
Lots of trash talking back and forth.
from what i can tell, coach howard talked to him?
Them losing..
Hey, apparently he told him not to, so...
Duh, "it."
Getting their ass handed to them.
Skip dessert?
I assume Coach T was referring to Hunter Dickinson's attitude and flexing towards the Maryland bench in the first game. Not sure about the 2nd game, I didn't watch that one.
As for this most recent blow up, seems Coach T overreacted to Coach Howard talking to an official while standing outside the coaches box. Probably some frustration that built up over the course of the 3 games (aka ass whoopings) and Coach T let it out at an awkward time that didn't make much sense. Then Coach Howard responded with more aggression because he "grew up in southside Chicago" and he was always taught to defend himself, especially from a grown man who is charging you.
That is what I have gathered from the video in the previous thread titled "Juwann ejected". Pepper Brooks posted a post game press conference video where Coach Howard went into great detail about what happened from his perspective. The video is near the top of the thread so it isn't hard to find if you want to watch it. Only 3 minutes long.
Heaven forbid young men playing a basketball game get excited or talk trash to each other.
Howard leaving the coaching box . Something NCAA was "cracking down on" this is my guess, since Mark said "ive contacted the BIG10 .its been going on for 3 games,so BIG 10 knows"
That's my guess too. I posted in another thread that this is the "outrage" that required him to lodge multiple formal complaints to the league and the commissioner.
Maryland’s coach is a poop head.
Hmmm, hard to imagine Howard losing his mind for "don't talk to me"
That’s because it’s a bullshit, made-up excuse. Turgeon doesn’t even have the sack to own up to what he said. Coward.
This right here. 100%. Not only did he not own up to anything, but he said nothing in that interview except "all I said was don't talk to me" and then went on about how the big ten knows and the official knows because its been going on for 3 games and he had to stand up for himself and for MD basketball. Stand up to what? If you were such a martyr during this obviously uncharacteristic display, then what did Juwan say that made you feel you needed to stand up for yourself and your program? He just looked at you and you said "Don't talk to me" and then he made a bunch of mouth movements that looked like speaking on camera, but never did he say any words? Get the fuck out of here talking about how you didn't say or do anything, but then not even mentioning what happened. Guy is clearly guilty of something to get under Juwan's skin. He didn't even try to pass it off as being a misunderstanding or Juwan hearing something, just stuck to his guns about being the bigger person. Wild to me, not at all sure if that's what actually happened, but I find it hard to believe. Also, Morsell was more than involved, so clearly more took place than him riding away from the instance on his high horse
Turgeon's explanation is not only bullshit, it's insulting. Juwan Howard lost his cool over some inane comment? You did and said more than that, and you know it, and you don't want to own up to it. It's a douchebag, weaksauce move.
Exactly!
I mean you can watch the video and clearly see that's not what he said. Also, Juwan who was in the NBA for 20 years and was surrounded by trash talk is not going to snap like that. Turgeon or Morsell said something personal that set off Juwan
Man, is there legit video and audio of it?!
He really knows about the banner rumour pretty quick for not saying it...reporters didn't even know what he meant when he said it wasn't true.
It's going to be hard to know for sure without some official in-game audio. I don't believe either of these explanations. The "don't raise the banner" rumor was started on twitter by some random account with like 15 followers, hardly a reputable source. And Turgeon's explanation seems like a hand-waving "don't look into this too much" description of what went down and why.
I have a feeling that Morsell was the instigator in all of this; that punk had been yapping and playing rough all game with Smith/Brooks/Brown. Even when Howard got the double-tech, Morsell was taunting him right in front of the officials.
I think you're right and this is likely a player thing more than anything
I've got the video now of what Turgeon was saying to Howard for those that are interested:
someone indicated it was caught on a mic. man, i hope they have that. that would make turgeon a lying whiny bitch, instead of just a whiny bitch.
Thanks for confirming that! I noticed that, too, and figured I must have just missed an earlier question.
Howard's response seems pretty extreme for a simple "Talk to the hand."
?
Edit: Unsuccessful attempt at expression of adoration for above actress
name checks out
The truth always comes out eventually. He gave a pretty classy post game interview, crediting Michigan for being an incredibly well put together basketball team. He raved about the ball screens from our bigs and the play of March Smith. Apparently, he felt like there were some injustices that came from Michigan towards Maryland in the previous two ball games... he reported them to the Big Ten office, who knows what they were and what came of this.
Before the "classy" part he sounded like a sore fucking loser calling the office and was doubly tacky with the "I've been doing this over 30 years." bullshit. His team, especially Morsell, are dirty fuckers
Not to mention, how does Morsell (i think?) walking over to the Michigan bench and talking shit and getting pushed back by the refs not earn a T either?
This is exactly what pissed me off too, he sure seemed like an instigator to me.
I don't believe Howard went off like that because someone said "don't talk to me". What a bunch of bullshit.
Morsell is Maryland's version of Brad Davidson. Just insufferable.
Morsell in 3 games vs. Michigan '20-'21:
- Wins: 0
- Hospital Visits: 1
i forgot that he was dented-face-guy.
Are he and Fran another izziot disciple of just being fucking assholes of human beings?
Assuming what he said is accurate (and for now I will give him that), I can respect what he said in the interview. I know the first game, Hunter was talking junk b/c he felt disrespected for not being recruited. They can put that on us but that's a player talking. Also, Morsell and others did plenty of talking in the first two games. I don't remember anything between the coaches or staffs. I respect that Turgeon kept it private until now but if he was complaining about players talking trash, then that seems a bit whiny going to the league office especially watching Morsell play all year.
FFS that was NOT classy in the least. Listen again.
I thought the play of May Smith was better than that of March Smith.
Yeah, I'm sure Juwan flipped out because Turgeon said "don't talk to me."
Please. He's lying through his teeth.
Makes you wonder if it a player or another coach that said whatever set Howard off.
You could hear Turgeon when he came up to Juwan yelling, "Don't talk to me! Don't! Don't!" While he was yelling it, he was pointing his finger down to the floor, and that's when coach blew up.
It's on the video. Take it or leave it.
Yeah, that would be consistent with Coach Howard's explanation.
Howard was out of the coach's box. Turgeon rules lawyered that as Howard shouldn't be allowed to interact with anyone including Turgeon (and certainly the refs) until he went back to his box. Howard thought Turgeon was being petty. Turgeon, like an intimidated chihuahua, overcompensated which Howard interpreted as aggression.
Shitshow ensues.
Turgeon probably whined about same things in previous two games which he lost, probably misattributed in his imagination to Michigan getting favorable ref treatment due to Howard breaking the box rather than simply being a better coach.
Consistent with everything we've seen.
