Treshaun Hayward Possible Transfer: Any new information?

With Cam McGrone leaving for the NFL and the rest of the non-freshmen linebackers seeking greener pastures, Treshaun Hayward (WMU, 2019 MAC DPOY) would be a welcome addition to the roster. Has anyone in the blog hive mind heard anything new on this front?

I honest think this would be an upgrade after being dominate in the first 9 games last year I feel like McGrone took a step back at the end of last season and going into this one.

Yes.  I can see where that might effect his tackling ability, and/or pass coverage.  But it has zero effect on whether he is in the right spot, or doing the right thing, in regards to play calls and blocking.  He was out of position more than anything - something that befell the entire defense this year.

Connor Murphy - USC DE (6-7 270) - has entered the transfer portal. Murphy was a 4* (#268 on the 247 composite) coming out of HS.

You may recall that Harbaugh recruited him pretty heavily for the 2016 class with a memorable 'Netflix and Chill' home visit in AZ. Murphy's older brother Trent played for Harbaugh at Stanford and Jim babysat for Connor on a home visit while recruiting Trent.

Per 247

Ultimately, the consensus four-star prospect never found a consistent role with USC's defense line during his five years. Murphy saw action in 50 games (two starts) with 18 career tackles, 1.5 TFL, one sack, two forced fumbles and a blocked kick.

During his time at USC he played a hybrid outside linebacker role, a traditional 5-technique defensive end and even on the interior defensive line.

Will Harbaugh kick the tires to see if there is a fit at UM?

Here is a photo from that home visit.

Speaking of home visits, does Harbaugh do many of these any more? In addition to this visit there was climbing a tree with David Long (and his little sister), go karts with Aubrey Solomon and the infamous sleepover with Nordin. I realize Covid pretty much killed a lot of the in person recruiting for '21 but it's been a while since I've seen anything publicizing Harbaugh visiting a recruit's home. Just wondering if he's been more subtle about it or not doing it as much.

Lets hope one of these elite DC candidates can recruit some talent off of the portal. If rumors stand true - the Defense is going to take even more of a hit.

Recruiting the portal has become such an important piece to college football success, and will only increase as this trend continues.  I hope the UM Admissions administration will work with the football program to make sure these kids can get a chance to come here and play football for a year or two.
