Not OP, but Pete Thamel is reporting it who's pretty trusted on these matters:

Huge news. Duke is probably the only team with a chance of poaching Gattis this offseason now (mostly because he's from Durham), but seems likely we keep him for at least one more year now.
December 10th, 2021 at 2:22 PM ^
seems like they're targeting Jason Garrett (I can't believe it either) or Elko from TA&M
December 10th, 2021 at 2:49 PM ^
Jason Garrett is in the pole position and seems like it’s happening
December 10th, 2021 at 7:15 PM ^
Pole Position, awesome Atari game
December 10th, 2021 at 3:20 PM ^
maybe if ACC Coach of the Year Dave Clawson is poached away from WF we'll have to deal with Coach Gattis being wooed by his alma mater. I hope he IS safe with us another year because I think he's really come into his own this year - but talent is always in demand.
December 10th, 2021 at 4:27 PM ^
The head coach of Wake would switch to Duke?
December 10th, 2021 at 4:18 PM ^
Gattis is going to get a well-deserved promotion sometime soon but man I hope he doesn't go to Duke. That unwinnable spot is not a place a guy on the rise should go. That's for a guy like Jason Garrett who is just happy to be employed in a psuedo-high profile job
December 10th, 2021 at 2:22 PM ^
Very good news
December 10th, 2021 at 2:23 PM ^
Duke also appears to be going in the Jason Garrett direction so unless something else happens Gattis should be staying put.
December 10th, 2021 at 4:19 PM ^
Aren’t all of the NFL jobs yet to be opened and/or filled? Indirectly could still impact Gattis as another circle on the carousel gets started?
December 10th, 2021 at 2:24 PM ^
Funny how he went from being a scapegoat to a hero, much like Harbaugh. Though last year's coaching shake-up had great results I'm hoping that keeping the band together results in a National Championship and a fantastic 22 and 23 recruiting class. Also if it looks likely Gattis would leave the year after prepping his replacement.

Flight tracker for the win!
December 10th, 2021 at 2:25 PM ^
It's not happening!!!
December 10th, 2021 at 3:33 PM ^
Do we need to get this in gif form as well?
December 10th, 2021 at 2:24 PM ^
Whew, dodged a bullet there.....Would love to see Gattis get a HC position somewhere. Just not until after next year..
December 10th, 2021 at 3:05 PM ^
Were they seriously considering him though, or was he just the "leverage name" they used in negotiations with Elliott?
December 10th, 2021 at 6:25 PM ^
Elliott has turned down offers before and was said to be choosing between UVA, Duke, or staying put, so I think they talked to Gattis in order to have a head start on the next name in case Elliott didn't come.

Clemson is taking on water fast!
December 10th, 2021 at 2:41 PM ^
Dang and I just invested in a warehouse full of these
December 10th, 2021 at 2:42 PM ^
This is the interesting aspect to this story. I recognize that successful programs have coaching turnover. Nick Saban has managed that for years. But Clemson seemed like it was mostly stable; I can't recall hearing a lot of about key coaching turnover there. Brent Venables has been at Clemson for almost 10 years, and DC for that whole time. Tony Elliott has been at Clemson for the same amount of time, but OC since only since 2015 (when he took on co-OC duties).
Anyway, to me the fascinating thing is how Dabo Swinney handles this.
December 10th, 2021 at 2:25 PM ^
Congrats to Tony Elliot!!
It should be fun seeing how well Dabo can do with out his boys.
Congrats to Coach Gattis, too, for staying in Ann Arbor!
December 10th, 2021 at 2:27 PM ^
Gattis back to game-planning vs. UGA, me back to Orange Bowl ticket search. Go Blue!
December 10th, 2021 at 2:28 PM ^
Good shit, Jed
December 10th, 2021 at 2:29 PM ^
Good news for the good guys. Gattis will get a job; hope it's a better one than this and not this year!
December 10th, 2021 at 2:59 PM ^
He'll replace Saban after he retires next year
December 10th, 2021 at 5:32 PM ^
That’ll be Dabo
December 10th, 2021 at 2:40 PM ^
Making the playoffs has made Gattis more attractive to other programs, but making the playoffs has kept him busy during the coaching carousel. So, we just have to keep making the playoffs every year to keep our assistants.
December 10th, 2021 at 2:42 PM ^
wait did Michigan football just catch a break?!?! Truly is a strange year.
December 10th, 2021 at 3:02 PM ^
Remember Hoke's first year?
December 10th, 2021 at 3:03 PM ^
That was ten years ago, man.
December 10th, 2021 at 4:14 PM ^
Huh? I wasn't insinuating it was yesterday.
It was a simple question, man.
December 10th, 2021 at 2:44 PM ^
Best news all day!
December 10th, 2021 at 2:45 PM ^
burning incense and licking frogs here praying this is true. Even one more year would help stabilize the culture they've created here.
December 10th, 2021 at 3:01 PM ^
It's official. UVA has announced it on their verified Twitter account.
I want Gattis to get a HC job, but selfishly I'd love to see him at Michigan until JJ is gone.
December 10th, 2021 at 3:04 PM ^
Michigan got lucky they're in the playoffs and so Gattis isn't likely to leave while they're still competing. My guess is he jumps next year if offered. Hopefully his resume will include "OC for national champion" in addition to the various other accolades he's received.
December 10th, 2021 at 3:24 PM ^
Don’t you mean “back-to-back national champion”?
December 10th, 2021 at 3:26 PM ^
Probably good for him in the long run. Next year M's offense should be even better.
December 10th, 2021 at 4:46 PM ^
Michigan got lucky they are in the playoffs? How so?
December 10th, 2021 at 6:47 PM ^
They got lucky in the sense that they're going to play for the title so Gattis is incentivized to stick around. Otherwise I think he'd have jumped to an open spot by now.
December 10th, 2021 at 4:20 PM ^
Gattis should stick around one more year - not just for our sakes, but because the roster will give him a chance to really showcase his "speed in space" scheme. He'll have better HC options after 2021, because our offense is going to be lit AF.
December 10th, 2021 at 4:55 PM ^
Good—I think it's best if Gattis sticks around for at least three more years.
December 10th, 2021 at 5:24 PM ^
Phew!!!!
