Tonight on BTN/BTN2Go: Michigan's 2008 win vs. No. 9 Wisconsin

Submitted by M Gulo Gulo on

Last week someone asked about this game. The condensed 1hr version is on BTN tonight!

One of RR finer moments at Michigan and the 500th game at the Big House

Really cool to see it underconstruction

M had no business winning that game. I was a student right there for that 2 point conversion. I believe there was a flag on the 1st attempt and should have been one on the 2nd but no way was the ref going to call 2 straight flags on a conversion try (The MSU logic of pass interference every play because they won't call all of them).

Also, Wisconsin had no business being #8 in the country or whatever the hell it was.

The INT TD by Obi was so awesome though. He had like 6 blockers.

I NEVER leave early but I left home at halftime of this one and had given up.

Hit record on the DVR just in case. Got home that night about 11pm and turned it on not knowing the result.

Woke my whole neighborhood up.

I too thought that was a turning point for the season at the time.

And purge 2009 and 2010 while you at it...the 2010 bowl game loss was painful.

I was at the Wisc. game...and for a week I felt good. Had I only known the way the rest of the season would turn out.

This was one of my favorite games I ever attended.  I'd say over 75% of the stadium had emptied before we started our comeback.  Pretty much everyone still in the stadium was in the first or second row.  The 2-pt conversion at the end was right in front of the student section and everyone went crazy after they called back the first conversion and failed the second.

500th game in the Big House. Michigan always finds a way to win the notable games. Like how our single win against MSU in the last 6 years was  our 100th game against them.

the defense was able to hang in there all the way and ovecome the offensive ineptitude of that team.  First half was just horrible.  Fortunately, Wisconsin seemed to want to keep us in the game and the defense was able to make enough plays to save the day.  No thanks.  I don't need to see that again.

Michigan's most recent win over a top-10 team..........

That will change soon. Very soon.

My daughter was basically a newborn when this game happened.  She was sleeping in her crib in the living room, and my wifes whole family was over to see the baby.  Everyone was being quiet and I was watching the game right next to my new child.  Thomspon took the pick 6 back and I started screaming after what was pretty much the worst first half I have ever seen.  My daughter woke up screaming and all my wife's relatives still think I'm a jerk.  I felt bad but that was a great comeback.  That is my "cool story bro" for that game.

Ah the lone bright spot of my senior year. Went to every home game obviously, and also went to road games at Notre Dame (monsoon game) and OSU (worst place ever).

If not for that Wisconsin game, I may not be alive today.

What sort of gets me even now - and as someone said, it seemed like a time where even wins were harbingers of doom - is that if the second attempt at the conversion by Wisconsin doesn't die with a bad throw (the first being successful but reversed on a penalty, I believe), that game goes to OT and who knows after that. Even what turned out to be a win was a bit of climb in 2008.

Obviously, I love reliving old games. That's my mantra. But even I have a little trouble watching that one. Yes, the comeback win was nice but that season was so horrific (the worst in the history of the program) and about 100 different winning streaks came to a violent end. Probably the most painful one being no bowl game for the first time in my lifetime.

There was no slow decline. Everything got horrible instantly. It's just too painful to relive.
