Nice collection there PA. Got some Treehouse arriving later today that I'll be sipping on. I do like bourbon, any recs for a bottle that is reasonably easy to find and 60 bucks or less?
Wild Turkey Rare Breed is a sleeper. Don't spread the word though, I'd hate for it to become the next hoarded bottle. Woodford Reserve double oaked is another winner.
Booted, u da man👍🥃🥴
Would love to find a 1792 12 year.
You always have a fantastic lineup to share with us!!!!! So difficult to find any unicorns here in Michigan ☹️. Love the whole 1792 collection.
Agreed on WT Rare Breed and the Rye also.
Just poured the end of Heaven Hill BIB, decent and worth it. Will probably switch to SH 14 next. Been nursing that bottle since Christmas as I know I will never see another.
Cheers and Go Blue
I'm a fan 1792 also, although the Bottled in bond expression taste like bananas.... I don't care for that one.
Is the Rye Wild Turkey Rare Breed better than the traditional WT RB bourbon?
Love the traditional Rare Breed
I prefer it, but I'm a rye guy
Thanks for the SH 14, sooooo good 😊🥃. Been sitting on a bottle of WT RB Rye for awhile. How's your bottle, empty......
Any suggestions for our next swap?
Not much up here to get excited about....
I still have half a bottle of the rye. Kentucky rye is good but I love the Canadian stuff. If you ever see a bottle of the cask strength Alberta premium, let me know!
I still have a bunch of those Weller antique store picks if you ever want one
The bourbon is always in my decanter.... the rye isn't all that available around me. Honestly I prefer the bourbon. Both are great, don't get me wrong.
Just picked up two bottles of Two James’ French Connection aged in cognac barrels and two bottles of their rye aged in vermouth casks. Both are phenomenal. The French Connection is 120 proof!
I have an Aberlour 16yr single malt that I might have to pour for a night cap!
Heading down to the ballpark to see “Show Time” Ohtani pitch tonight. Beer and hotdogs are on the menu!
I was reading a book about whiskey that was published in 1997, and the guy kept going on about how the bourbon industry was in trouble. He hoped it wouldn't die out. I think he was right.
And I can't wait until it settles the fuck down..... bottles that used to be always in stock are now rare.... the secondary market is nutz...nuts.... hoping rum, flavored vodka, scotch or something else becomes the new shiny object.
being in louisville makes it easy for me, so i'm lucky. i also don't have the taste for it yet. i normally reply to these threads with coors light. haha. if i drink whiskey, it is crown royal, although i have started buying bourbon as I've said here before. i have a blanton's, eagle rare, eh taylor, and some buffalo trace (these are all sold at the same distillery in frankfort).
Prolly the only way I’ll ever score that quartet all at once.
Weird thing is, unless you go to BT distillery, most of those are easier to get in Ohio unless you're willing to overpay. Living in Louisville area myself, I travel to Ohio often for work and always grab a bottle of Weller antique or Special Reserve.
Odd. Some people had me buy a bunch of bourbon last time I came up. They were ok with local liquor store prices which were nearly three time the price at the distillery. I guess some people like it more.
Crown is my secret bar shot when I'm in and out (sounds funny to write but plenty of examples!) Always under $6 and a nice quality.
I was in London and every Pub had Jack Daniels! They had to pull the Jameson from under the counter, but they had it. Double shot - and heavy pour - was under £10. Yes please!
I won't say that it almost died completely, but you couldn't sell bourbon for $50 a bottle. Liquors seem to cycle in trends, and its clearly bourbon's time now.
I feel like it's been bourbon's time for while. Tequila is really picking up steam now. Have some favorites but hard to get great stuff for under $70 a fifth (other than casamigos)
It's Friday?!
No one told me. Shouldn't I at least get some warning?
Pretty sure 1792 was more than 12 years ago…
Andouille po-boys for dinner tonight. Riesling? Gewürz? Or do I just crack open an Abita? There are worse problems to have.
You lucky duck. My favorite meal on this planet is a combo shrimp/oyster po boy direct from New Orleans (Domilise is my go to but so many great options) but having one with andouille sausage is damn good in its own right.
Polish one of those suckers off with an Andygator or Amber Ale.
And a Jockomo for dessert.
Haven’t had that one surprisingly enough, but the name instantly makes me think of my favorite restaurant, Jacques-Imos. Right off Carrollton in Uptown. Since you’re around LSU I’m hoping you know the place.
We catered our wedding from that restaurant. Anyone visiting NOLA for the first time should go to that restaurant as a right of passage.
Never been, but now I know where I'll be eating next time I'm down there.
Never had one item on that menu that I didn’t love. Get the alligator sausage cheesecake. You’ll thank me later.
Be prepared to wait for a table, though. If memory serves, they don’t take reservations. But whether you wait five minutes or an hour, the wait is worth it.
An off dry Riesling would be fantastic, beat the heat with sweet! A chilled red would be lovely too (50-55 degrees), a Loire Cab Franc (or Cab Franc Rose) could be a fun theme on peppers and sausage, Pinot noir or Gamay/Beaujolais work well too! Or keeping it Louisiana sounds good too!
Abita AndyGator. Or Turbodog. Or both!
Been celebrating with some family that's visiting from Germany. They aren't bourbon fans and they're fancy, so we've been hitting the redbreast 27 and Laphroaig 28 pretty hard. Once those bottles are gone it will be the Talisker 27, Red Spot, and Nikka Taketsuru 21. Ballin'
German hillbillies? Who knew?
Not hillbillies, but nice people. They're over here for a week for a big ole Vietnamese wedding. He brings the good scotch.
Sounds like a helluva party!!!!
Have a wonderful family weekend 🥃
You're killing me smalls!!!!🤣😂🤣
Replying to XM....
Thanks for the invite! Would love to try the Laphroaig.
Their distillery tour was the best one in all of Scotland. I like a pungent young Laphroaig, but there's something so wonderfully balanced about the older bottles.
Trying to put together an Islay tour next year.
I stayed there for only one night. I wish I had planned for three or four days there.
Founders Centennial...it's been a week.
Black Box Cabernet Sauvignon. With my wife entering the second trimester with our second child, I’m not drinking any of our good stuff until at least January. I barely drink liquor unless I’m having a margarita, maaaaaybe a rum and coke at a wedding, and have cut back heavily on beer unless I’m at a game or a sports bar so it’s been mostly wine for quite a while.
Three bottles worth for $18.99 at Ingles. Feel like I get my money’s worth.
Congrats! My wife is on week 19 with our second. Will find out gender next Wed and then have a reveal with her fam (mine isn't local).
Hope the pregnancy is going well, and congrats to you as well!
This one has been a lot tougher on my wife (so far) than the first one was, even into the second trimester, but we wake up every day hoping it’s a passing thing.
Congrats and I hope it gets easier for her soon.
Congrats!
Shout out to XM.... wearing my "Freedom & Whiskey" Tshirt while sippin' this Friday.
Picture or nobody will believe you…
My go-to is almost always a single malt. I'm not yet home, but when I am that's gonna have to be Ardbeg's Uigeadail. I really have a thing for that region (Islays) and that specific maker. Of theirs, for me, it's Uigeadail > Corryvreckan > An Oa.
