Sparty Tears are Tasting Sweet Today
I work in Lansing, so I get to listen to Lansing sports talk radio in the morning and afternoon. And my, oh my, the Sparty tears over Brandon Johns are tasting so sweet today. All day yesterday, the people on the radio refused to believe the Brandon-to-Michigan rumors were true. And today, they're just in disbelief that we would beat them for a hometown recruit that they really, really wanted.
If you want to sample the reaction on the RCMB, the two takes seem to be:
1. MSU didn't really want him (no, you really DID want him)
2. He sucks anyway (and yet you still really wanted him)
Here's the thread so you can enjoy it for yourself. Pride comes before the fall, and it seems like the fall isn't close to stopping yet.

They are trying to say that Beilein doesn't really develop talent. Here is an excerpt
Beilein certainly did well with some guys, most notably Levert & Haradaway. And most of the guys he got to the NBA were bona-fide superstars in HS that had NBA written all over them:
* McGary was as high as the #2 prospect in his class (no to mention two full years older than most of his peers), he likely was a top-5 pick had he gone straight to the NBA.
* Burke was a 2nd team Parade All-Amercian as a senior in HS (so top ten player nationally) & Mr. Basketball in Ohio, hardly the middling 3* ranking assigned to him as a 9th grader that M fans point to
* Stauskas was the #2 Canadian player in his class behind only Anthony Bennett
* GRIII was a first team all-state player in Indiana, and MVP of the ESPN HS All Amercian game
* Darius Morris won the CA John Wooden award which is best player in the state across all classes.
They also go on to say they don't get why a 4 would go to UM for development, citing Irvin and Robinson not having success and completely omitting DJ Wilson
Is perfectly fine by me. But to read the crap they spout reminds me that they're just plain ignorant. That's not ok with me. Sparty sucks!
Very happy for Michigan but also for Brandon Johns. Spending the next several years in Ann Arbor v. East Lansing that's like winning the lottery v. getting laid off.
GO BLUE!!
Does this person understand players commit before their senior seasons? Other than McGary, the rest were decent players but not that highly recruited by the top bball programs. Heck, OSU passed on Burke.
a few of those guys blew up their senior year after JB got them on board as 3* types; morris, hardaway, GRIII to name a few. so JB can definitely identify under the radar talent. he can also develop them too.
Love how they list 5 players and for each one they cite a different ranking system (#2 prospect, Parade All Americam, #2 Canadian, All State Indiana). I do not follow b-ball recruiting very much, but I'm also not a complete moron. By using just a tad bit of logic and googlin' skills I was able to compile the 247 Final Composite rankings for the referenced players.
- #28 - McGary
- #93 - Burke (behind #17 B. Dawson)
- #133 - Stauskas (behind #92 M. Costello, 97 K. Kaminski, and #111 D. Valentine)
- #17 - GRII
- #102- Morris (behind #70 Derrick Nix)
Yes, Sparty. Trey Burke was totally top 10 coming out. Everyone knew it. That's why Ohio State tried so hard to get him, right?
10,000!!!!! I DID IT! SO MANY PEOPLE TO THANK!
I was going to pos you, but the 10000 looks so nice and symmetrical that I thought it should stay up there for a while.
EDIT: whoever neg'd him back to 9999 . . . that's just COLD!
I fixed it. Until the next neg.
we must keep the balance
The worm IS the spice, the spice IS the worm!
Whoa, wait, what? Shit, if the Guild finds this out, we are going to lose our CHOAM company contract for SURE!
And there it is.
MGoChallenge: Keep uncle leo at exactly 10000 points for the rest of the month.
Let's negbang the cocky prick below 9000, if possible...
Looks like they are trying . . .
And succeeding . . .
I'm a cocky prick?
:( :( :(
Not at all, but it's been hilarious to check back every few hours and see you drop down to 9963 again! :-D
Was thinking about downvoting you just to put you back under, but someone beat me to it. So now I'll upvote. Enjoy your emotional roller coaster.
Honestly, IDGAF about points. Just having some fun.
I love reading all the comments on MLive from sparty fans who are trying to say things like "We didnt really want him anyways" or "We dont need him"
lol
There are like two dunks on his commitment video where he had to duck so his head didn't hit the rim.
Nooooooooooooooooooooooo
Nightmares
That is just so wrong on so many levels.
I don't really care about MSU and recruiting battles and "tears of unfathomable sadness." I don't like MSU, but the irrational hatred and obsession of some on this board is beyond annoying. (I now downvote almost any "3 - 9" posts of any kind.) What I care about:
- Beilein (and Harbaugh) getting the players they want.
- Beating MSU in East Lansing, particularly in basketball right now.
- Doing better than MSU in the standings, in the Big 10 tourney, and the NCAA's.
I have an outside the box helpful suggestion for you: Don't click on MSU tears/Sparty Schadenfreude/etc.
I recognize the 3-9 jokes are becoming ever-present, so can't help you there beyond the suggestion to recognize the board you're on and learning to deal.
Time to move on to O-H-3I-O jokes.
Your comments are contradictory.
"I don't really care about MSU and recruiting battles"
"What I care about: Beilein (and Harbaugh) getting the players they want"
Since nearly every player we recruit is also being recruited by MSU in state - it follows that Beilein cannot get the players he wants without first winning the recruiting battles.
Winning the battle is a necessary condition for getting player.
Furthermore, if Michigan lost all recruiting battles, it's very likely we would lose the actual games due to talent difference.
The game is the war, the recruiting are the battles.
I believe the general sentiment sums up as follows:
1. Michigan is superior to Michigan State
2. MSU fans go to outrageous and illogical lengths to rationalize why Point #1 is not true, inadvertently providing additional verification that Point #1 is actually true.
Its funny I never see that type of attitude here, at least i dont see it. If we lose someone to anyone, including MSU, we say...oooo stings...welp onward and upward
These a-holes are acting like they never liked the kid and wish him the worst...keep being you sparty
You can always count on a good sparty cry after a loss. If you go back a ways on RCMB its funny how high they were on this kid just a few days ago.
Stole one right out from under ol' Urbans nose.
I kinda feel bad for them. Reminds me of an interview I saw years ago with several completely innocent dudes named Timothy McVeigh. I mean, damn that is a bad beat. Sheesh.
First off, if there is any coach in college football that has done more with less it is Dantonio. He's a good coach regardless of the fact that he's a sour puss. He's done a better job coaching up kids who weren't highly rated over the last decade or so than Michigan has done prior to Harbaugh coming on board.
Second, congrats to Javez. Consider for a moment you are him and a big time program came and offered you. No need to rain on his parade or be a douchenozzle about it.
It's sad that Michigan Men are starting to act like morons over what Spartan fans/radio think.
It is in Michigan's best interest to have MSU a strong team so when Michigan does destroy MSU, it means something.
Well, that's some Bobby Williams / John L. Smith level crootin' there.
I think Hoke has changed the tide on the rivalry. Hell people in Ohio are starting to believe him. Never in a million years I would have thought that. Selling Michigan jerseys is a good start.
