Somewhat OT: 11warriors buckeye fan has cancer

Submitted by MgoHillbilly on November 10th, 2022 at 9:41 AM

The month of November is one that results in Ohio state being on my mind a lot. Naturally i go to other message boards like eleven  warriors to bask in the schadenfreude of a poor performance by them against northwestern, but saw a post today that seemed deserving of posting here, because as ugly as the rivalry is, it's compassion for our rivals that makes the rivalry great.

Thoughts and prayers for Buckeyefan67.

And another response from buckeyefan67: "If you could , would you be able to let EVERY UM fan know on MGO I was able to read their kind words and wanted to thank them . As I am unable to respond to them I hope you will for me--at least  thru Hillbilly.  Ftr, my uncle taught at UM many years ago ---I believe it was physics.  Thank you again ."

For those wanting to help in other ways, here's the response from buckeyefan67: "thank you for the offer to help.  My neighbors have moved my lawn , cleaned the weeds out of my mulch beds and have delivered no less than NINE meals to our house.  Several more have been promised but I have asked them to hold off for now as my frig and freezers are stocked.  And with my appetite not what it typically is, well... I hate to waste someone's good intentions.  Our son is bringing over TG dinner --so I am truly blessed. Your prayers mean more to me than you know.  Thank you."

Last response so far that I can see from 11w thread: "Just got back from radiation.  The show of support is overwhelming  and from our rivals(thank you UM fans!) as well.  I thank you with tears in my eyes (heck I have been known to get tight in the throat watching old Lassie movies ;) . Tomorrow radiation and chemo and Monday more radiation and they will also drain some liquid from my lung. I never expected this support but the Lord moves in mysterious ways. I thank you ALL for your kindness and concern.  May God Bless each and every one of you.  Thank you."

Thoughts and prayers to this young man and his family and to each and every one of you who have been affected by cancer.

I lost my Mom to cancer on 11/22/89. Just a few days before The Game. My last conversation with her was about watching the game together even though she insisted I should still go to it with my friends. Her funeral was during The Game.

Go Blue and God Bless 🙏

One of the hidden benefits of the passion of sports fans is the sense of community you get. In a way he's one of us. Hopefully he gets better. We're praying and thinking of you, my man.

Cancer is an enemy that Michigan and OSU fans should all gladly fight together.

All rivalry and playful banter aside, I hope he gets better. At the end of the day, football is just entertainment for the masses. At least to us fans, it is.

FCancer.

Lost too much to it. Continuing to lose more.

Await designer immunotherapy becoming first line and commonplace treatment.

Good luck to him in his fight.

I lost my Mom to lung cancer in Jan 2020.  I hope this guy's family doesn't lose him to it.  Good luck, dude - it's a fight worth fighting.

Cancer resides in hell and shoves it's ugly, shit-stained face into our lives from there.  It can fuck all the way off...

Friend of mine has brain cancer and a 50% chance of survival.  He's 34 with a 3 year old and a 1 year old.  He and his wife are teachers with gold plated insurance, but this is still going to financially ruin them.  He has to wear a helmet for when he has seizures and falls down.

Cancer sucks.

Prayers to the buckeye guy too.
