So... With TCU's loss, what happens now? Is a rematch basically guaranteed?

Michigan fans to USC and TCU now:

And if we lose it doesn't change anything. We can still be considered the best of the one-loss teams on the grounds that we have the best win. There's no scenario now that the committee can't spin to avoid a semifinal rematch; the only problem would have been if TCU and Michigan were the only undefeateds standing and they couldn't avoid placing them 1 and 2.

No, TCU lost a thriller in overtime on a neutral field. Also, it sure felt like the officials hosed TCU more than once on some critical plays.   Meanwhile, Ohio got pantsed by 22 points at their own field.

OSU should have been ranked 4 after the loss to UM, with USC 5.  USC wins the PAC 12 and they jump OSU to 4th, bouncing OSU to 5th.  I strongly believe  that is what would have happened if the committee was sticking to the top 4 remain the top 4 regardless of the conference championship mantra.
OSU lost to #2 in the regular season, USC lost to Utah in the regular season.  OSU has a much better loss and better wins, it’s not hard.  There is no case that USC is a better or more deserving team.

I disagree.

Both teams have the same number of wins.

USC has wins over UCLA and ND.

OSU has wins over PSU and ND, and the ND game was closer.

Both teams only lost to one other team.

USC is ranked higher.

OSU lost their last game by 22.

USC lost their last game by 23.

It's also better for college football to eschew rematches.

There is definitely a case for USC, and fory money, it's a much better case.

Stop it, PSU is ranked 8th, UCLA is ranked 17.  Better win - OSU

OSU’s in season loss was to #2, USC’s in season loss was to #12.  Better loss, OSU

USC wouldn’t have jumped OSU if the committee was not willing to drop them for a loss.  I doubt that you really believe that USC is better than OSU.  Final ranking are tomorrow, so we don’t have long to wait to see who’s right.

Committee will do what they did last year with UGA and Bama to avoid a rematch. Either keep TCU at 3 or if UGA loses we go to 1 and TCU drops to 4. And then on the off chance we lose, we stay at 2 and TCU stays at 3.

If you want the conspiracy theory response, it would be that last year they did so to keep one SEC team from automatically eliminating the other one in the semis. And in this case, they would like it if two B1G teams met up early and one is eliminated, giving Georgia an easier path. There you have it.

The CFP committee set a standard last year of avoiding rematches in the semi finals. So it should be guaranteed to be Mich vs TCU and UGA vs oSU. Only thing left to decide is who is 1 and who is 2.

Consider the SEC bias. If LSU wins today OSU won't even get in. Alabama's quality loss to LSU will get better and they will pass OSU.

1. Michigan 2. Georgia 3. TCU 4. Alabama. /s

It's likely the committee would seed the teams so a rematch would only happen in the championship game.

Michigan Ohio State was the most watched game in the last 10 years and the committee now has the opportunity to schedule that game again, my guess is they make that happen.

TCU was playing with house money as long as they didn't get blown out, so the strong comeback to force overtime probably kept them in it despite the loss. However, a Georgia loss could make things interesting: that would basically give the Committee an excuse to swap Michigan and Georgia, which means that they can dump TCU without having to rationalize Bama over OSU. Michigan-Bama and Georgia-OSU is the best possible situation TV-wise.

I think they did enough to stay. Their resume is better and the big 12 is better than the big ten so there’s that.

But who knows. I know at least getting it to OT helped them a ton I bet.

We have zero control over who we face. Our team knows this. They are cold-blooded. They do not care.

We have a highly professional coaching staff and an experienced, successful team. My guess is they are eager to play whoever lines up in front of them.

If it's Ohio, it is Ohio. If it's GA, it's GA. If it's TCU, it's TCU.

No fear.

Listen, we may not get OSU in the semi, but you can “bet” anything there will be a rematch one way or another. The Game had 17 million viewers. You think a rematch isn’t an absolute dream scenario for the NCAA? Book it! It’s happening, so everyone better start coming to terms with that. Bring ‘em on, I say!

There is a chance OSU is not in top 4. But, it doesn't"t matter. OSU has to go through Georgia D. Rematch in first semi would not be preferred by committee

I'd like to beat Georgia in the finals.  I don't care who we beat in the semi-finals, but TCU doesn't seem as good as OSU.  I think we beat OSU 3 out of 4 games or more, but it is hard to beat a team twice as TCU just found out.  Either way, bring it on!
