Snowflakes: Defense

Submitted by alum96 on January 8th, 2024 at 11:26 PM

One of the best I've seen in my life.  Once it exited the Big 10 it still smashed some SEC and P12 offenses.  Every level of the defense was amazing. Mikey is a generational player for our university and our 2 DTs Graham and Grant are going to be all timers next year too! WJ!

I had not doubt that Sainristil, Will Johnson, Graham and Grant were really, really good defensive players, regardless of opponent. But I'll shout out Jaylen Harrell, who I was never entirely sure how to rate because of how bad a lot of the offenses Michigan faces in the B1G are. No doubts after these last two games. That guy was relentless and really good against good teams.

Amazing game by the defense.  They essentially scored all the points in the second half: Johnson's pick set's up the field goal and Sanistril's pick sets up like an 8 yd TD drive.

Amazing. I was 14 during the 1997 season and as time went on, I figured I'd never see a defense that good again. Well, here we are. They are so well-coached and do all the details right. Holding Washington to 13 points and 300ish yards is outstanding.

Two absolutely legendary interceptions. This unit SMOTHERED them tonight. Alabama's successful stretch in the Rose Bowl is even more impressive in retrospect. Lights out in almost every quarter of the playoffs. Just amazing.

I mean every bit as good if not better than the 1997 defense when you consider how offensive oriented the game is nowadays. Really good players at every level of the defense and great coaching will do that for you. Just beyond impressive how the defense stonewalled both Alabama and UW for a long stretch when the offense was struggling.

I don't have a way to put into words how incredible the defense was this year and specifically the CFP. Pointless to even try. I can't imagine seeing another defense this deep, talented, disciplined, and just fucking amazing.

Pay Minter whatever it takes to keep him, If Jim leaves he should be highly considered to be the next HC at 〽️.

The D line dominated the two games in CFP.

It's just about executing. I don't feel like they did anything -- I feel like we beat ourselves.

Just lost a lot of respect for Penix. I already lost respect for deBoer for not being classy enough to know when the game was over. There was no need to risk an injury to Penix on the last drive.

Here’s the link, but don’t bother unless you like seeing sore losers.

Michigan 2023 defense: the most elite collection of ballers ever assembled.  They are a menace as individual playmakers.  They are a menace on the d line.  They are a menace at linebacker.  They are a menace in the secondary.  They really are an amoeba of menace.  They have no weaknesses, and every position is a legit strength, and they have starter-quality backups at every position.

Michigan's 2023 defense is unheard of (outside of Athens in 2021).  They proved it against the best of the East, South, Midwest and the West.

Legends.  Start the 20 man statue fund to commemorate them at the big house.

I dare say this is better than the 1997 defense.  They relied on great players.  This defense is great players and a great scheme.  Minter should get all the money after this.

Absolutely awesome performance and effort by entire Michigan Defense.  Thank you Mikey for being the legendary playmaker you are and for staying.  Amazing year and game.  Thankful for Coach Minter and for all the ballers on Team 144.  Looking forward to the G brothers, Mason & Kenneth, and returning and reeking havoc again next year.
