Simpson the key, today

Submitted by Alumnus93 on

I'm not a hoops guru by any means, but I can say this, that Xaviers play tonight is the most key piece to winning, for if he negates Custer, then they will be crushed.  Custer is their ringleader, and this is the first team weve played that is excessively dependent on one player.  This is Simpsons time, and all the pundits who left him off the All-whatever teams will reflect.

I digress....have been thinking this since February, that this is our year to win it all.  Was there as a frosh season ticket holder in 1989, (and then again as a fifth year senior with the Fab Five....)  and this team has that oneness again.

The key. Point guard play in the tourney is critical.

Why do you think we have won 13 in a row. X.

And Rob has to score 6. Ha. Go Blue.

I don't think we are dependent on any one player. That is the beauty of this team. Ace has compared them to the '03-'04 Pistons. While I agree with that, they also remind me of the Isiah Thomas/Bill Laimbeer Pistons. Isiah was the leader, but you never knew who was going to be the dominant player that game. Same as this team. Both teams had incredible benches. Isiah:Z undersized PGs who are tough as nails Dumaars:MAAR silent assassins. Almost never showed emotion. Dantley/Aguirre:Matthews guys who can get you buckets down low Mahorn:Livers glue guys. Defend and rebound. Laimbeee:Wagner. Great outside shooters for big men. Rebounders. Draw the wrath of opposing fans. Microwave:Poole/Duncan. Points off the bench. Rodman/Salley:Teske. Defense, rebounds, block shots. Teske doesn't run like those two guys, but he is valuable just the same.

If Mo and Teske play well, we win. They have a 6'9" Ricky Doyle-like center. Next tallest is 6'6", then everyone else is under 6'4". We are the first team, other than Miami, that will have legitimate size over Loyola. If our bigs play well, we win.

That Loyola is dependent on one player. Townes seems to be a top notch player, along with Custer and the other guy who is a sharp shooter from 3. Sometimes they even run offense through Krutwig. They are a diversified team, so Simpson, Wagner, Matthews and MAAR will have to bring their A game. This is the final four, everyone is elite at this point.

Remember Butler blew through their final four opponents, so I hope M brings it today.

I feel that whichever team is shooting at 30-35% or higher from 3 is going to win the game. If either team Is cold, it’s over
