MGoBrethren this is your one stop shop for all things Signing Day related. Are Lugard and Gatlin Bair coming’? Will we have some surprise flips? Alll schadenfruede from Ohio potentially losing another recruit to Miami, Jeremiah Smith, is welcome here.

Because of my Browns fandom I follow a lot of sportswriters and such on the Twitters, sorry X, that also cover the Buckeyes.  One of the funniest exchanges happened this morning when somebody was lamenting the fact that OSU had no NIL money for recruits which is why they were losing players to Miami and other schools.

Somebody quickly corrected him and listed all the 5 stars they were signing and asked him "so you think our coaching staff has somehow identified and been able to sign all those elite athletes NOT caring about upfront money?  Give me a freaking break.  They simply didnt have enough to sign everyone they wanted."

This is causing a LOT of anguish on the Buckeye Twitters.  Their insiders are apoplectic over the DL signing and are laying the blame directly at the feet of Larry Johnson who they claim hates recruiting and is too old to connect with the players they're targeting.

If memory serves we had a HC around 10 years ago or so who somehow forgot to sign any OL or DL of note for a couple of recruiting cycles.  Didnt work out too good for him, my guess is this miss will come back to bite Day hard.

+1.  Oh yeah - Smith.  That good old Smith guy.  Smith.  Uh-huh.  Smitty.

If it's not too much trouble, it would be great to type the first names, especially for guys named "Smith", for the benefit of those of us who don't follow recruiting to the point where we know exactly who "Smith" is.  Thank you.

EDIT: Probably Jeremiah Smith, mentioned in the OP?

So, if JJ goes into the NFL draft, do we know any good seniors, 5th year seniors or grad students QBs we could get through the portal this coming spring? You would think a few would be very interested in a good chance to be the starter on the '24 Michigan team.  I hope JJ stays but if he can win us a NC, I think it will be mission accomplished for him and he will go to the NFL. At this time I think it is a 50/50 chance that JJ returns for his senior season.

Watching how Milroe has improved over the course of the year at Bama, I think a year of Orji at QB could be at worst interesting and at best a surprise success.

That said, we have yet to see Orji throw a pass this year while Milroe has a really sweet deep ball.

My prediction for the Bama game is that given all the run Orji is getting to scout and prep for Milroe, we will see a few more Orji packages in the game, including at least 1 designe run -pass option to throw off their defense.

Then again, we could always just have DE pass from the tailback position :)

Milroe has a really sweet deep ball.

You're right, and especially so when defenses forget to play defense. Having literally nobody rushing you, and being able to throw a jump ball to your more-talented receiver who is, inexplicably, in single coverage.

Sorry, your point is valid; I still just can't believe how badly Auburn botched that.

Milroe has the benefit of having 2 elite wide receivers that can get separation downfield. I watched a lot of Alabama games this year and saw him frequently hit wide open receivers sprinting downfield with 10+ yards of separation from the defender. Additionally they don’t play a whole lot of defense in the SEC (besides Georgia).

I wouldn’t mind watching Edwards getting some reps at wildcat QB next year if he returns ;).

Denegal has looked good in limited mop up duty this year. I would like to see him get some reps next year if JJ leaves and we don’t bring in a transfer QB.

UM does an incredible job developing edges in that they are all disciplined, contain outside-in, and become great run defenders.

That said, would indeed like to see a few more freak game wreckers like Hutch or Ojabo - that’s just talent and athleticism that can only be reached by a few.

Our DT’s have been just stellar.  Surprised more elite edges don’t want to play on a defense where they could shine, but the going rate $$$$$ for elite d-linemen and QBs is high these days.
