Yeah, it'd be one thing if the university showed real remorse, committed to real change when it comes to victims of sexual assault or abuse of any kind, but they don't seem to have learned a lesson. Had a real chance to show that the cult of personality isn't stronger than doing the right thing but they failed miserably. I have no ill will toward the players, past and future, but the administration and coaches who knew - man, fuck them and their legacy.

I appreciate you spreading this news so that the maximum amount of people can remain knowledgable of the atrocities that happened at this fucking trash institution...but damn this is the worst title I have ever read on this board.

Put yourself in JoePa's shoes:

Paterno allegedly told McQueary in 2001 that the claim against Sandusky "was the second complaint of this nature he had received," according to the police report

You've now received a 2nd complaint that one of your employees is being at best very inappropriate around young children in your lockerrooms. What do you make of that? If you get two reports of stuff like - stuff that often doesn't get reported at all or doesn't get reported for a very long time after - what in the world would you think about Sandusky?

All that in addition to the other reports that JoePa was told in the 70's, 80's, and 90's as well. Of course Sandusky was trouble. JoePa wasn't stupid. He knowingly overlooked it for the sake of his program and his position.

Do we have delusional JoPa fans at MGoBlog downvoting?

It seems like what happened was so horrendously awful that people just can't come to grips with it.  What transpired there for years with the full knowledge of people with the power to intercede and stop it is just unfathomable.  Shutting down the program completely for a number of years to reset and clear it out seems perfectly reasonable.  People seem to care more about a sports program than the lives of kids.

Exhibit A on how screwed-up this world is.

Today is a good day. One of a handful of days throughout the calendar year where I get to enjoy my favorite sport of all time.

I refuse to let these sickos ruin it.

Paterno allegedly told McQueary in 2001 that the claim against Sandusky "was the second complaint of this nature he had received," according to the police report, which was written after Sandusky's arrest 10 years later.

I personally don't have any doubts that JoePa knew about it, and I hope he's rotting in hell because of it, but this doesn't add much. This isn't from the original police report, but a recollection ten years later that made it into a police interview. There's a reason this wasn't allowed into court.

There's a lot more damning evidence against JoePa than this, but I guess it could be just another confirmation. As PSU starts to get more success, I don't mind these articles coming out to remind the public of the heinous shit that went on there.

I think the point here is that the police report provides corroboration of other accounts that (1) Paterno knew of earlier allegations, (2) Paterno's own words confirmed it in a report McQuery gave (before he knew that Paterno would claim McQuery's report was the first he ever heard of it), and (3) it supports other third party accounts that Paterno was aware before 2001.

Paterno was not only only morally bankrupt for failing to report...turns out he was a self-serving liar who used his previously sterling reputation to cover up his own tacit complicity.

JoePa knew, and his 1970s staff knew, that Sandusky was raping children and they did nothing to stop it.

And the NCAA didn't give these colossal assholes the death penalty.

More it going to come out on this. Just the tip of an iceberg of horror stories.

McQuery is a fine cautionary tale. When he saw ... that .... he chose to leave and call Daddy because he was afraid that the blowback would kill his career. He passively participated in the coverup instead of going directly to the police. This had the exact opposite effect. It killed his career. He is unhireable. If he had pulled Sandusky off the kid and gone straight to the police, he's be a hero and probably a head coach. Oh, and he would have saved a kid from a horrifying rape.

I don't care so much that he went to Paterno and Co first. When I first entered the field of social work, I went to superiors in some situations (not ones this bad, but ones involving some crazy shit) and they've always walked me through the proper process that very day I talked to them. Paterno and Co should have said "WTF, we will help you make the polic report. You've done the right thing." But they decided to cover it up. When it was clear that they weren't going to police that very night, McQueary should have went himself. That was his biggest misstep.

Is my new favorite president of all time for his slap in the face to that scumbag university by picking Texas for the national title at the end of the regular season. Thank God for that, otherwise our greatest win ever in 1969 over OSU would have given Joe Pa his first national title
