SIAP: WS3 Official Visit to Wyoming

Submitted by umbig11 on

If this was already discussed Thursday or Friday I just flat out missed it. Anyway, Speight took an official visit to Wyoming this week. He took in one of their practices and talked to their staff for a couple of days. I haven't heard anything since, but that does not sound like a QB that is returning to Michigan. Missing our spring practice and attending others should be enough evidence to indicate he won't return. My initial opinion after Harbaugh's interview remains the same. It was just another awkward moment for Jim when answering questions. He is a tough interview. One other person close to it has said the same thing, "it was just Jim being Jim." Knowing how quickly things get posted here, I could have missed it, so delete if needed.

Good for Wilton!  I hope Wyoming has something he's looking for.  Seems like a decent enough place - if you like the country (and I do).  If he's a city boy at heart, though, it might be a tough place to live!

Good luck, Wilt!!

Good info. Wish him luck. Not the worst place to get a year in and, maybe, pump up the draft stock. Say what you will, but Craig Bohl helped get Josh Allen into the first round, so it can't hurt.

Craig Bohl built NDSU into the powerhouse it is at the FCS level. He was basically the Saban of the FCS level, and he also helped mold Carson Wentz into a first rounder. I think he left before Wentz’s final season, but he still laid the foundation.

Great coaching is great coaching, regardless of the level of football. I’m sure Speight could learn a lot from him.

This whole scenario is really weird. How has Wilt not already landed somewhere? Is he not a commodity or did he delay too long and is now stuck with limited opportunities? Also, I know you touched on his and Pep's relationship, but I was curious if that tension was limited to him and Pep or if Pep has that tension with other people as well?

UW Pharmacy School Graduate Alum of 2014 here! Born in Detroit, raised in Cheyenne, WY and lived in Laramie for three long winters. For being such a mediocre football program, Wyoming actually has some very dedicated fans. They drive hours from all over the state just to come to the games. Getting a QB transfer from a major program like Michigan would be very excited for the fans and I'm sure Wilton would be very appreciated here. Of course he might be running for his life on every passing down, but I'm sure he's used to that by now.

I like Wilton but this process seems botched. Making a decision to leave before talking to Harbaugh. Skipping being with the team for bowl preparation so you could join a new team in January only to delay your decision. Michigan then grabs a transfer blocking any slim chance of you return. Not looking at a considerable downgrade in competition. He has some success as a starter but is looking at a Shane Morris transfer level of competition. This cannot be working out as he imagined.
