Third baseman, eh?

Well, the quarterback arm will help definitely.

I knew he went in the MLB Draft to the Rangers, but I honestly didn't know which position they supposedly drafted him to play.

Well, if he plays well this year and looks like a decent NFL pick (if even the following year), I hope there's an out clause he can invoke.  It may be just a placeholder for the Rangers against other MLB teams, rather than locking him into the Drew Henson paradigm.  But as a 39th round pick, he'll never see a MLB stadium - unless he buys a ticket.

This is a non-issue.

Shea was drafted in the 39th round of the MLB draft. At that stage of the draft there are no signing bonuses, no charter flights, no press conferences or hot cheerleaders welcoming you to the organization. You’re lucky if you make 30-35k a year. I know because one of my buddies got drafted by the Mariners in the 40th round several years ago. He lived in motels for several years and couldn’t afford more than going to AppleBees if he wanted to go out for dinner.

Next year’s NFL draft has no surefire early round QB candidates. The best candidates right now are Jarrett Stidham from Auburn, Justin Herbert from Oregon(who?), and Will Grier from WVa. Far cry from the QB class from this past season. Shea will take his chances, learn from the best QB coach in America this Fall, and go to the NFL draft from there. If he has even a halfway decent season, he can be off the board in the first round. If he has a good to great season, he’s guaranteed to be the first QB off the board and possibly a top-10 pick.

If EJ Manual could be a first draft pick, so can Shea Patterson.

Nothing to see here.  He hasn't played baseball since his junior year in H.S.   This is a last chance fall-back position in case his football career does not work out.  But if I were a betting man, I'd put my money on him being a football player long term.

Ranger's contract is place-setter in case that NFL career does not pan out ... that baseball contract at his draft position isn't worth much more than an expense-paid minor league tryout.

Texas AM QB just signed a $5 million dollar contract for MLB ,he is playing QB at AM this year

Patterson will be an NFL QB  ,he might be in Ann Arbor for one season, but he will play QB this season

Let's get real Shea's Rangers "contract" is not any where near first round money like $5MM.  It is basically $0 ... maybe he gets a free bus ride to the minor league complex, hotel accomodations and food expenses.  That is f-ing it ... a minor league tryout.
