I think the pros like him a lot...he's a play-maker...a terrific leader...a great teammate-they love him. He may not quite be ready but he is close enough. It's his call.

Next year Michigan will have a terrific offense-with Patterson they will be nearly unstoppable...will be close with McCaffrey too. Charbonnet is the perfect RPO running back...they will pound people-inside, outside, short and long...pick your poison!!! And that crazy defense, though they lose Winovich, Gary and Bush, will somehow be even better. It should be quite the ride!

The next three years Michigan will be a top five team-challenging Alabama for #1.

Maybe he leaves, maybe he stays. But this report means nothing to me.

Miller said Thursday Haskins is staying according to school sources. One day later he has to flip that because other sources tell him he's very wrong.

Now he says unnamed sources tell him Patterson is leaving. We have no idea who these sources are and how legit they are, and based on the Haskins stuff Miller doesn't seem in the know. We do know Brian posted a few weeks ago Shea was going to stay and he trusted his source. I'll trust Brian over Miller.

These threads are like weeds in your yard, and mostly when the OP doesn't reply to the thread (to get significantly negged), it makes me think it's likely a troll.

Who asks this question now, seriously? Let's watch some football.

QB draft class is much weaker this season than next.  If Shea does well these last couple of weeks it would be wise for him to take a risk and go.  Could he use another year to polish, yes obviously, but thats probably hard pill to swallow when he has two pro contracts waiting for him (MLB and eventually NFL)

I don't think he goes unless he leads Michigan to a NC on the strength of his arm. In that case, he would be stupid to stay

Only Shea, and maybe his closest family and friends, know the answer. As many have said already, it is contingent on how the rest of the season goes, and also contingent on how he is evaluated.

Whether or not he has what it takes to be a successful NFL QB, will some NFL club draft him and give him a significant signing bonus. A 4th round pick in 2017 had an average signing bonus of $500,000, and an average contract of 4 years for a total of 2.5 million. I don't know the taxes, but if I was able to start adult life with half of 3 million, even say just a million in the bank, I think I'd be ahead of the game.

Remember also that Jim Harbaugh will be candid with Shea about his options and with an evaluation. Given what PFF rated Shea last week, if he plays even at a less high level than last week, and wins just the next 3 games, losing finally to Alabama, I'm pretty sure some NFL club will draft him no later than the first or second round. The last pick of the first round in 2018 was projected to get a salary of $9.5 million, with a signing bonus of $5 million. At least 70% of that is guaranteed money. That's $10 million pre-tax guaranteed. Take the money and run!!

It can be doubted whether even Patterson himself  knows yet whether he's going to return for another year or not, so anyone else's take on that should be filed under Hot Smelly Clickbait Garbage at this point.

I would say that there is less than 5 people who know the answer to the OP question. Not one of those 5 people are in the media. NOT one. So anyone other than Harbaugh, Shea or his family saying anything about his career is pure speculation.

So, my pure speculation is that if I had to bet one way or another I would bet he opts for NFL. He has NFL arm, NFL mobility, NFL smarts and plays in an NFL offense.  As others have pointed out, finishing strong and his stock will rise from mid round to early round (2,3).  If he is lights out for balance of season he could even create a buzz pushing him to 1st round territory (not likely).  But if Johnny Manziel can get picked #1 then Shea certainly could.  Another point, by all accounts, Shea seems to have his ego in check and is a good leader.  I know I am biased, but if my team needed a QB in NFL, he would be there near top.  Those high flying RPO offenses have proven that more often than not those QB's with big numbers don't work out.

Foolproof, 100% accurate way to tell if Shea is leaving:

Check the official roster on mgoblue.com.  If Shea is listed at a height under 6'3" he is staying, because he's not tall enough for the NFL and needs another year of steak and whole milk.  If it says he's 6'3" or taller it means he's all growed up and ready for the NFL draft.

Refresh early and often for his current status.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Brian (of this blog) report on an UV that Shea was coming back.  And the source was from Shea himself (an email) through someone well connected.  I understand minds change and whatnot, but I think Brian’s report is the latest and greatest. Again, I could be wrong.

There was an email from Michigan football-related persons to other Michigan football reporter-ish persons saying that, if Shea was making his decision at this moment, Shea would be coming back. Shea was asked about that later and said that he hasn't thought about the NFL, or the only thing he's thought about is this season...something to that effect.

I think it's fairly uncontroversial to say that 1. Shea came to Michigan with designs to play one season here, enter the draft, and be a first round pick, 2. Shea would not be a first round pick this year and might not even be a second round pick, and 3. Shea is enjoying his time and his teammates at Michigan more than he anticipated and doesn't want this to end.

Brad Crawford isn’t an insider at all. His posts are all relating information that someone else has said. The last real insider info that has come out is the email that says he plans to stay.

That said, if he leaves, I wish him the best and I think him spending the one year here will help Michigan moving forward. If he comes back, I think this offense can be ELITE next year

This week?  Maybe.  Last week he was staying.  Next week he'll be going.  Too many things can happen between now and February (or whenever they have to declare).  However, if he leads Michigan to the playoffs and does well against Bama/Clemson, he's gone.

Not a bad draft to enter for a QB. There are no top QBs in this class. All the top QBs are freshmen. Tua and Clemson QB.

I'd love for Shea to come back, but damn it I want to see a QB that started at Michigan under Harbaugh flourish.

I always take 247 with a grain of salt. Actually, more like a shift of production at Morton's.

That said, if it came to be that he left with his stock very high, say, after an OSU and BTCG win as well as a bowl win, I can't say that I would fault him.

This article source is that Bleacher Report article from Matt Miller. The Patterson camp let everyone know last summer that they only intended to stay one year. I don’t think Miller knows anything new.  He’s just reporting what he heard in NFL circles.

My feeling is: if he takes that next step in his final 3-4 games, then he will probably leave. But if his performances are on par with what we've seen so far (i.e. good but with definite room for improvement), he'll come back so he can get into a better draft position.

This was always the plan, it things went well...Sam has noted this on numerous occasions...

my biggest fear isn't Shea leaving (i have every confidence that DMC will be ready to step up), it's that this board becomes cluttered with threads on whether shea is leaving every single day.

Some of the throws he’s made have been ridiculous and I’m sure have made an impression on people in the NFL. If he wins a NC I see him going. If the more likely scenario happens and Michigan loses again this year, he’s back to win it all next year.
