Shaun Crawford Officially Decommits

It's all over the Twitterverse.

Isn't recruiting a blast? Everyday I realize there's so much better stuff I can waste my time on.

It's not about Crawford. My frustration is the process and the 'again' feeling.

Good luck to the young man.

SDSU all time winning %: .556

Brady Hoke @ SDSU : .520

Brady Hoke ranking win % SDSU all-time: #9 of 18 total coaches

No conference Championships.

"SDSU hadn't won a bowl game in 40 years, and those prior wins were lower-division games like the Pineapple and the Camellia."

Or like the Poinsettia Bowl.

He wasn't a mediocre coach for SDSU - he was an average coach for SDSU, which is pretty much mediocre in the overall scheme of things.

He was a slightly BELOW average for Ball St. coach at Ball St.

The Poinsettia Bowl is a lower-echelon FBS bowl. The Pineapple and Camellia Bowls were bowls for lower division teams, in an era before there were D2 and D3 championship playoffs.

There's a wide gap between middling FBS teams and Division II (or, in the terminology of the time, "College Division"). Is that even in dispute?

Without a doubt, Hoke is honest, personable, forthright, real, and chock full of integrity, but I doubt that very many recruits or players would regard him as "charismatic"—and I don't think this is a negative. Some of the most charismatic people around are also the most dishonest grifters you'll ever meet.

I think the players are pretty devoted to him.

I think the coaches want to play for him.

I think most fans want to like him

I call that charisma (especially when you consider that the record on the field undermines)

just my take.

Also, I didn't explain my self succinctly earlier: I  think Hoke is a below average X and O coach.  That is what I meant to say.

Lavall Jordan recently spike about how MBB's recruiting tactic of offering kids once they are on campus creates a demand for a Michigan offer. Football can't do that, but being honest with kids and asking them to stick to their word is worth a few deco nuts (autocorrect for decommits) to me.

On par, I'd rather have this approach than the shadiness of other coaching staffs.

What's pathetic? That a kid barely old enough to drive isn't fully set on where he wants to go to college? How is that pathetic? I mean hopefully he sticks around, but if he doesn't, it's going to be okay...it's not like he walked out the door after pissing on the M and punching Coach Mallory In the face. Lighten up.

Wasn't he a huge Michigan fan growing up? That is two kids in this class that claimed to be big fans of Michigan only to decommit. That is the only thing about this situation that bothers me. However, I only want people that are interested in playing for Michigan to come to Michigan. I just wish we could get more of these good players who grew up passionate with Michigan to stay committed. That is one reason I am so excited about Peppers. Not only is he a high skilled player, but he also grew up passionate about Michigan.

Just because someone is a fan of the school they grew up liking doesn't mean jack shit in grand scheme of things. Players must make the best choice for themselves and I can't tell you how many times I've seen on this very site a player who grew up liking Ohio State and have a committable offer go to Michigan. This isn't exclusive to Michigan or Ohio State nor exhaustive as I'm sure it happens at other schools as well.

They should just let kids sign their LOI whenever they are ready their Junior or Senior year.  Make the commitment a "commitment".  Anything else is just a verbal and basically meaningless.

But if hoke doesn't have a good year this year, losing a kid that wasn't going to touch the field until 2017 at best is the least of our problems.

I look at the guys height and I wasn't that crazy about Crawford, if he came to U-M great, if not, whatever, seriously. Like has been pointed out up thread, the majority of the short CB's have not impressed me much.

I like the kid from VA. more cause of his size and Kinnel looks like a stud. My advice to you kids out there is take your time, don't commit before you are ready, it's putting a bad taste in the mouths of most college football fans of all programs, not just ours.

Whatever you end up doing Shawn, good luck to you, just be diligent about it.

Also, I would venture to guess that Hoke told him that he can't consider him committed if he's taking OV's everywhere, good for Hoke if this is the case, our program can't be held up by the infatuations of any one prospect, we have to make decisions that are best for us, plain and simple.

I disagree about size. Shorter Michigan DBs may not have been impressive recently but what about Lamarcus Joyner, Janoris Jenkins, Tyrann Mathieu, and Tim Jennings, not to mention the flexibility Crawford may have had as a returner and receiver. Plus he was a hard hitter and good tackler from what I saw on film.

The 2015 class has been rough with losing 3 top flight players. Hell there might be more decommitments with this class than the last three combined under Hoke.

they will  just bring in anouther 4 star cb  to replace him no big deal. most likely the guy they  bring in will be better.  rember back in the day when michigan lost roy marble to iowa, and they replace him with a guy name glen rice. .

Well, it's not good news, but it's also not stick-your-head-in-the-oven news, either. Two highly-rated DB's in that class, and it's a position of strength. We'll be fine. As for Crawford, I believe I read that ND is his dream school, and if that's the case, you can't blame the kid for following his dream. Best of luck, and let's move on.

are both run by the Brothers of the Holy Cross, not sure if that has anything to do with anything in this case (like someone at the school being in his ear about giving ND due consideration). He was just suspended for a few days, ostensibly for fighting, so he's having a rough week anyway. Missing the D1 track state meet as well. I thought I read a quote from Urban Meyer a while back that is paraphrased thusly: when a recruit commits any time before signing day, it just means you are in his top three.

Yeah, not buying that.  If a kid can't handle a bunch of anonymous (mostly) dudes posting on message boards, not sure how he's going to like the world when he's playing.  He's looking around - nothing wrong with that.
