Share Your OSU Stories of "Class"

Submitted by A Lot of Milk on December 12th, 2021 at 7:56 PM

Slow day on the blog, so I wanted to add a discussion topic. There's been humungous uproar from the cooler poopers that Des was taunting Stroud at the Heisman ceremony last night. OSU fans claim this to be the most disgusting display of disrespekt ever seen on television.

So to provide evidence to the contrary, please share your stories of OSU's lack of class in recent years. I'll share two:

1. Most obvious and most comparable story is Kirk Herbstreit LAST YEAR saying on national TV that Michigan "waved the white flag" and chose to not play OSU when over half the team was infected with COVID. Kirk would prefer to risk the health and safety of not only Michigan players, but OSU players as well, so they can help make up ground against Michigan in the all-time series. To OSU people, inferring that unpaid (at the time) college students wimped out of a game in a pandemic is much less offensive than ribbing a QB that his team got destroyed in the only game they practice for 24/7 and the one in which they base the entire personality of the school around. Additionally, a group of OSU people came up to AA after the cancelation and painted the rock with messages saying we gave up and didn't want to play them.

2. More of a personal anecdote, but in the week after the 2013 OSU game, I attended a Michigan-OSU hockey game in Columbus. During intermission, the scoreboard played a clip art-quality video with a name to the effect of "Timmy's Weekend." The slideshow showed poorly-drawn images of a little boy at Thanksgiving on Thursday, decorating a Christmas tree on Friday, and on the slide labeled "Saturday" they put up an image of Devin Gardner on his back on the field after missing the game winning 2 point try in the OSU game. As everyone here knows, Devin Gardner put up one of the best performances in The Game history in 2013, throwing for over 450 yards and scoring 5 total TDs on a BROKEN FOOT and falling a 2-point conversion attempt short of beating an OSU team that was 23-0 under Urban Meyer at that point. An Ohio State university employee mocking an injured college athlete who played one of the best games of his career and who nearly single-handedly upset an undefeated, 16-point favored OSU team is something I'll never forget and is why I'll never feel bad for Michigan giving aOSU a taste of their own medicine

Somebody should link to that blood-boiling story that Brian wrote about 10 yrs ago on a visit to Columbus.  It includes some drink buckhead tackling his physically challenged friend.

spoke to some genuinely nice OSU lady fans before the game 2 weeks ago and even they said they are afraid to go to games at the toilet-shoe.

My Mom and Dad attended a game at the show a few years back.  A group of guys yelled go bucks as they walked past.  Mom responded with a Go Blue to which one of them threw a beer on her.

The group laughed and acted like that was normal. I can’t think of a single friend that would ever consider that and if they did they would get reamed by the group.

I was visiting my father in Florida. He has since passed but had dementia at the time and was clearly elderly and impaired. He was wearing a Michigan baseball cap and a middle-aged couple walked by us and started yelling at my father, "Michigan sucks!" and laughing. It was such a low-life thing to do.

I lost respect for Brian reading that. I distinctly remember it, then. I can't imagine not retaliating when someone physically assaults one of my friends, much less a physically challenged, likely defenseless friend. If ever there was a scenario to let lose the dogs, this was it.

Brian likes to belittle the argument that he doesn't grasp football concepts because he never played physical, competitive sports, but there is absolutely something lost in that missed experience, from both an analytical and a life perspective vantage.

First of all, fuck Ohio State. There. I don't care shit about class when it comes to OSU.

Only good things can happen when Michigan beats OSU.

In 2006, if we be OSU, we are in a championship game.

In 2016, if we beat OSU we are in a championship game.

In 2019, if we beat OSU we are in a championship game.

In 2021, we beat OSU, played in a championship game and now headed to a playoff game. In addition, OSU is clearing house on defense. That would not have happened had they beaten Michigan... They did not go to a championship game, which they would have if they beat Michigan...

So, in short, I don't care if Desmond embarrassed OSU. I don't care if Harbaugh said some baseball triple something quote...

ONLY GOOD THINGS HAPPEN WHEN MICHIGAN BEATS OSU

Our bad luck was having to play at OSU in 2006 and 2016 when we would have beaten them in A2. Not sure we would have won 2018/19 anywhere given by then the scheme (crossing patterns, rub offs, etc.) for Brown's D was so well known it was written on the stalls of just about any restroom in the MW.

I live in Columbus.  I was driving down High Street (yes, that High Street) and witnessed a driver run a red light and hit another car.  I pulled over and asked if everyone was alright.  I told the 2nd driver that I had caught the accident on my dash cam and I would send him the video in case stories changed.  He had noticed the Go Blue, Michigan license plate frame on my car and told me that he would never look at another Michigan fan the same way because I had stopped to help.  I told him that stopping to help had nothing to do with being a Michigan fan.  Some things transcend college football.

The day Bo died a buckeye fan I worked with stopped me in the hallway and with a stupid grin said, "So you guys had to kill your coach in order to try to beat us, huh?"  I had no words because of how disgusted I was.

I lived in Columbus for about 6 years and regularly wore my Michigan gear, so I've seen enough Buckeye class to last me a lifetime....but this was by far the classiest.

Last story I’ll mention because I never got it off my chest since it happened. 2016 Osu game, Osu fans making jokes of flint water crisis, making signs for gameday and writing on bedsheets. Then the game itself, we endure the brunt of 1000 screwjobs and I shuffle out of the stadium as they storm the field.
Two days later on a Monday there was an attempted terrorist attack on osu’s campus. A guy tried to hit people with his car and then got out and starting stabbing people. Thankfully he didn’t kill anyone and the cops shot him when they arrived. Scary moment at the time, as I was in high school in Columbus at the time and we were getting lockdown commands. As people are trying to get information on what’s going on, people start making up theories, the most prominent of which: a Michigan fan was so mad we lost that they tried to kill OSU students. No words. Rumored throughout the city and plastered so hard on social media that you can still find it to this day if you look for it. They mocked children getting poisoned in the state of Michigan to our faces and then had the audacity to suggest that Michigan fans are insane enough to attempt mass murder over a football game, they didn’t even suggest it, that was their GUT INSTINCT. For the record, the attacker was an osu student

I’ll never forget that for as long as I live.

Your harshin' my buzz bro.  Nuthin' but love for our neighbors to the South.  It's all double rainbows for me since 11/27.

Most OSU fans that I know, including a good friend of mine, are very nice, reasonable people, and recognize the fact that its just a game. So I've never had anything truly horrible happen.

I guess probably the worst experience I ever had wasn't really even at my expense, but rather just at everyone who passed by. It was the 2009 OSU game, my sophomore year. The game where Michigan had every chance to win but I think Tate through four interceptions, two or three of them being inside OSU's 20 yard line. A game where Michigan absolutely pissed away a chance for a huge upset. Tressel was playing peak Tressel-ball that day and was just dangling a W in front of RichRod's face. Absolute "Here's a W, I dare you chumps to come and take it" kind of moment.

Anywho, I'd never seen a more dejected fanbase that day. The O-H-I-O chant had taken over the stadium, but the worst was when we were walking back to our house, a group of OSU fans who were roughly the same age as us walked right by, flipped us off, gave a couple of weird crotch thrusts and yelled go bucks right in our faces. Whatever, not a big deal, but the absolute worst was walking right by the Union and seeing a couple of drunken OSU sorostitutes climbing on top of the Union sign and having their friends take pictures of all of them doing the O-H-I-O spelling. They were incredibly loud and obnoxious about it, making sure everyone walking by knew that they were doing it. And not one person did anything about it.

At the end of the day, it was harmless fun so it wasn't worth getting into an argument or fight over anyway, but it just perfectly encapsulated the mindset of the Michigan fanbase. Just so beaten down from repeated heartbreak that when even more shade is thrown in your face, you don't have the will or energy to even try and respond. You just sit there, take it, and wait for it to be over.

Dad took me and my younger bro to the 2004 game in cbus. We had a car window M flag flying all the way down 23 from our base in Toledo. Pulled down Lane (or one of those streets outside their public restroom toilet seat-shaped stadium and then some goon dropped his trousers in the middle of the street and mooned us. Then some woman in her 40s (not a student, my pops later clarified for my brother and I), repeatedly yelled at 14-y.o. me and my 12-y.o. bro, "Fuck you!"

Haven't been back!

In the Shoe 1992.

Literally got refused service at the concession stand for wearing Michigan colors.  Thought she was joking at first, at some point it was clear she wasn't joking.

Also, I was near the front row of the closed end of the shoe that year.  Saw a member of the MMB with a welt on her face and could see her saying to her bandmates that someone from the stands hit her.   I personally did not personally see it happen, don't know if it was a punch or something thrown at her, but yeah, it was very classy.

I was at the 2005 Henne-to-Manningham PSU game and ate in the long-since-closed Thanos pizza place after the game. We were seated next to a few PSU fans, who though bummed about the last second loss, had a great time and good experience. I asked them who they considered their rival - they didn't say Pitt since JoePa was able to drop them off his schedule most years after he joined the B1G.

They said BY FAR that OSU was their rival and they hated them with passion especially the way the OSU fans treated visitors to the Horseshoe. Also, know some MSU grads who attended games there and felt the same way.

Haven't been to PSU ever and been to MSU since the 1980s, but don't recall hearing fans worried about their visit except for the occasional drunk.

Fields may the comment (correctly but I wouldn't have said it) after the 2019 blowout that OSU took The Game more seriously than UM. That along with the hang a hundred comment was more than enough to motivate Aidan and the guys.

A couple hours after this year's game.

We flew back on that Saturday (caught the first half at the airport bar, second half streaming from the plane).  Landed at 530p EST and had to take the the shuttle back to McNamara.  There were two Buckeye fans on the shuttle with their head in their hands when my wife, daughter, and myself walk on the shuttle.  Of course we were wearing Michigan stuff, and one of them looked at us and without warning said "Look at these f*cking a$$holes, even the kid is f*cked up" right after we entered the shuttle.

My wife and daughter were stunned by this, me not so much.  I just focused on getting our luggage onto the luggage rack in the front when one of them stood up and got a little too close to me than he should.  I turned around, looked at him and just said "f*ck around and find out".  I'm not imposing by any stretch of the imagination, but I had fire coming out of my eyes.

It was a quiet and uneventful shuttle ride after that.

I know that this isn't what was intended, but one OSU-UM weekend in Ann Arbor, a couple guys wearing OSU gear asked me and my buddy for directions to somewhere. We directed them where to go, and they responded with a "thanks and Go Blue."

Incredibly generous of them, and reminder that class still exists.

My former boss (we are now colleagues) is an OSU guy married to a UM girl. This guy's wardrobe is all scarlet and grey. Throughout the many past years of domination, he has never talked shit to me. After our win, he broached the subject during a conf call to congratulate us.

In other words, I have nothing to say about the other side's "lack of class."
