searchbits: who should be our next AD?

It seems all too apparent that Warde is not just on thin ice, but may be falling through it as we speak.

Who are some of the top ADs in the country who have both a keen sense of running an athletic department and the chops to navigate the wild world of NIL?

in this case….WWSD (What Would Santa Do)?

Jim Hackett? When is the last time we were happy with our AD? I guess we liked Hackett for hiring Harbaugh. Before him we had a student revolt against Dave Brandon, Bill Martin left with the mismanagement of the transition from Lloyd to Rich Rod. I can't remember the '90s or if anyone had opinions of AD's back then - but I remember reading that the AD was in a bad financial spot before Bill Martin stepped in. Is the last guy we liked Don Canham?

Bill Martin was very good from a facilities standpoint - we renovated a ton of buildings (or built new ones) in his time.  He also hired Beilein.  If not for the 2007 football coaching transition, he'd be remembered as a really good AD.  But that transition ... yikes.

Before him was Tom Goss, who promoted Brian Ellerbe and ran the AD's finances into the ground.

Before him was Joe Roberson, who presided over Ed Martin's heyday.

Before him was Jack Weidenbach, who was only around a couple years as a caretaker.

Before him was Bo, who resigned after a short tenure when he learned PSU was admitted to the Big Ten behind his back.

Before him was Canham.

So yeah, pretty much.

If Warde is really out, which is a big if, try to get someone but not necessarily anything to do with UM. Look around the teams for best run sports teams without violations and good NIL programs. I do have to say though that we somehow were able to retain many of our players and it seems our NIL has improved. But someone with good skills would help this new world.
