Sam Webb says that Gattis would’ve been under consideration for HC had Harbaugh jumped to the NFL

Listened to The Michigan Insider this morning on WTKA and Sam Webb stated that rumors about Gattis floating around the internet were completely false(I’m assuming that is including the one about inappropriate behavior on the recruiting trail). Even mentioned that if Jim had a choice in who would’ve been selected as his successor, he would’ve endorsed Josh for the job. Mentioned that Gattis’ beef might have more to do with compensation and the fact he was not making the amount of money that Don Brown or Mike Macdonald made when they were Coordinators at Michigan.

Who?  Who has reporting cred?

Sorry if I missed it in any of the postings over the last few weeks.

Baumgardner is on Big 10 Today show acting like he is in the know.  Even though he’s clueless and merely spewing his take.  Not sure how the Big 10 Network reaches out to him for insight.

Appreciate any insights as to who is worth a read or listen.

In an article on 247, Josh Gattis is now saying "It had to be something special to get me to leave something special, and this was it, man, This place is it. I am so excited about coming to The U."

A little different from his text to players.

I must be one of the few people left that don't feel entitled to know the details surrounding every situation.  Gattis left for whatever reason. U of M coaches should not trash him and he shouldn't trash U of M.

A fat raise. Actual control and freedom to run "his" offense. That's why.

The tweet was aimed at finding sympathetic transfer options.

Dude just wants to live in Miami, go clubbing, rub elbows with the rich and semi-famous, watch the sun rise over the Atlantic, order frozen yogurt from the street vendors, build sandcastles, take up aquatic sports, rake in 1.9 mil annually.  Let's not overthink this.

If Sam is correct, then Gattis’ decision was simply irrational. Michigan would be crazy to offer him a renewal contract with more dollars and a buyout before it had certainty as to who the head coach would be.  On the other hand, Gattis could wait patiently and have a shot at the HC position, or wait patiently and have a good chance of receiving a large pay increase if Harbaugh returned.  And if neither of those things happened, Gattis could stay at Michigan for one more season while looking for his next big gig.

Bolting now may get him more money in the short term (although he almost certainly wouldn’t have known how Michigan would counter) but probably reduces his short-term prospects for a plum HC position.  And it’s high-risk, in that a bad performance at Miami will dampen the reputation he had finally built here.  In light of all that, chances are that he was simply being petulant, in which case there isn’t much anyone can do about it other than being more graceful to him than he was to Michigan as the two sides part ways.

The other possibility, of course, is that his move *is* rational, which would mean he had reason to anticipate a reduced stature at Michigan had he stayed.

Either way, we move on from here.  Given the way this played out, I think we’ll be fine.

The most logical in my eyes the whole time JM did his thing was that a few internals *might* be considered, but were told others outside the university would be considered as well.

I think Gattis reached out or answered calls before any of us knew about it, and when JH told everyone on the team he was looking at NFL jobs.      Not a doubt in my mind we lost both OC and DC because they were sure JM was going to take a NFL job.

He wanted to feel something long term, so he took offers and even when JH said he was staying;  Got the offer he thought gave better long term benefit for himself.
