Go Saddi!   He went to Lansing Sexton (where I went a few years before) and was so good at basketball I heard of him long after I moved away.   Hope he gets to go home.

ha, that's awesome. I really don't remember much about Jason. I looked it up and he was a career 82.6% FT shooter at WMU. Looks like he only played there 3 years, 1994/5/6. I don't recall if he got injured.

John Garavaglia (MSU) won Mr. Basketball in 1993. I have been trying to find the voting list from that year but cannot. Chris Crawford (Comstock) came in top 5. I believe St. Clair Shores Lakeshore had a big guy that finished near the top. Don't know where Saddi/Black finished

I don't want Michigan to only recruit the state of Michigan, but there was something really cool about having guys that you played with or against playing in college.  He wasn't at my weightclass, but there was a guy [Mike Nadalicki?] who wrestled for Traverse City who played for Michigan and I'd see him around campus.   I "blocked" Rob Fredrickson who played at MSU and I believe the Raiders and Lions. I used to lift weights from time to time with Tico Duckett and his little brother TJ was hanging around.  I also went to school with Allan Haller who is MSU's AD now. None of those guys would remember me other than maybe Allan and possibly Tico.  Haller and Duckett were coincidently #1 and #2 in the state in the 100 when they were seniors. Fastest people I've ever seen run up close.

My understanding from a mutual connection (who hasn't really interacted with Washington for a long time now, just due to moving out of state) was that he was just super committed to being in SE Michigan with his family.

They're really the only other major job provider for what he does. Think it's as simple as that.

Best of luck to him. If he goes to MSU, then so be it.

Can't be all smiles when we take Tony Alford away from OSU then flail our arms up in the air yelling at the clouds when one of our own wants to go to MSU.

Just the nature of the business, sometimes.

Are people yelling at the clouds about this? It's not like OSU hiring Mattison or Bama hiring Helow, where there might be some competitive advantage to go along with it, since we're going to have a brand new team and coaching staff. Really it's more like OSU hiring Drevno; if they want him, by all means. I'm more surprised that MSU would want to take him than anything given the way the past few years have gone...

Yeah I don't think people are real upset.  Saddi's time at Michigan is over, he doesn't want to leave the state for work, and he seems to have found a job that suits him.  And besides, with MBB getting a total coaching reboot, I don't think that Saddi leaving is a huge competitive loss.

Not at all like Alford, a long time offensive coach, leaving OSU after spring practice started and not as part of a head coaching change.

When Beilein left I always felt like Juwan was wise to keep at least one of John’s staff members. In this case, I’m ok with a completely clean slate considering we aren’t trying to retain key players and it’s an overhaul.

He’s not being retained by May. It’s not like he is leaving on his own. Saddi is a great guy with a great family (I know them), so best of luck wherever he goes. They will be lucky to get him.
