Rumor: Gattis Could be out as OC at Miami

Per an SI Miami article:

  • Has not been on campus lately to host recruits
  • Miami QB coach left the team on Sunday, to take his old job as the OC of App. State.  Thoughts are he had been passed over for the OC role for someone new.
  • Rumors are Gattis has been interviewing at Iowa and could retake his old WR coach role at PSU
  • Mike Ryan from the LeBatard Show and Canes insider, teased a change to the OC role could be coming on today's podcast.

Ok Boys and Girls, we are better than that. Some of it is funny, but it also reflects poorly on us as an institution if someone doesn't know the whole story. I know I don't know the real story and it seems kinda tasteless that the fan base would continue to circulate rumors around public social media forums like that. This is the kinda stuff you make up jokes about at the bar with your boys. It's hurtful and if I were a recruit I might think twice before I decided to join up, because some people just don't know where to draw the line. If it happened, it's over, everyone has moved on, and we should let it go. No sense in dragging this kid, because nobody would be more embarrassed than him. Keep it respectful family.

Did we, though? 2019 was his first year ever coordinating, so you give a little slack there. 2020 was 2020. It's really 2021 where we expected to see him come into his own and he kinda did, I guess? I mean, we did well enough for him to win the Broyles award, but Jim Hermann also won the award. I think it was just the talent that overcame any coaching deficiencies in both those cases.

That said, I would love to see him as OC at Iowa lol

Miami's offense was not good, but it was still significantly better than Iowa's. If you combing Miami's offense with Iowa's defense last year, you go from Iowa being 27 in SP+ to Iowa being 10!

Iowa being 9-3 and B1G West champs with an offense coordinated by Gattis, led by Cade and All is absolutely a possibility.
