RIP Carril.  The designer and master-mind of the Princeton Offense that sat in the core of Beilein’s motion offense passed today at the age of 92.

Great coach - RIP Pete.

The 1989 Princeton vs Georgetown was the ultimate David vs Goliath battle where the Tigers fell 1 point short of what would have been one of the great upsets of all time.

One of my favorite Vegas memories is being in the sports book when Princeton beat defending champion UCLA in 1996.  The entire building was rooting for the underdog, except for a few poor souls who had driven over from West LA.

EMU was a really good program in the mid-90s, led by 5’5” Earl Boykins, with other high-quality guard play from Brian Tolbert and Derrick Dial.  That year, they went something like 24-5 in the regular season, beat Duke (who had lost a lot of players) and lost respectably to Ray Allen’s UConn squad in the round of 32.

EMU vs Duke was an 8-9 game.  EMU was the 9 but it really wasn’t a huge upset.

As someone else said, EMU then lost to Connecticut but there was no shame in that.  UConn, along with UMass and Kentucky, were absurdly loaded and dominant that year (UConn bombing out to Mississippi State in the Sweet 16 remains an inexplicable game to this day).
