My personal belief is that he's too good for a place like Arizona, after seeing the kind of crap they clearly tolerated with Sean Miller, and would've probably continued to tolerate if he was still winning. But setting that aside, its a good job and is a place he should be able to bring some talent to. I'm confident Beilein wouldn't take the job if he didn't feel confident that he and the AD were on the same page about how he runs a squeaky clean program and won't ever slightly deviate from that.

My only other question is how long does Arizona reasonably expect him to stay? He's 68 now, and he'll be 72-73 years old by the time he has a team full of "his guys." He's fresh off heart surgery too, and while Arizona doesn't have the expectations that an IU or UNC would have, its not like they're devoid of expectations. I think they'll be expecting Pac-12 championship contention and deep tourney runs within the next couple of years, and they'll probably have to endure at least one year of big growing pains before reaping any kind of rewards with him.

Beilein clearly got things figured out here for good by Burke's freshman year. But that was five seasons in. Beilein would be 73 by that time at Arizona. I guess he could still keep coaching by then if he keeps himself in shape, but Arizona shouldn't be planning for immediate success with Beilein. He gets you there for the long term if you're patient enough with him, but is he going to be around long enough to get you there?

He could be, but I don't know the answer to that.

Beilein won't take the job. As soon as he theoretically gets there, the program is going to be smacked by the NCAA's punishment for what Miller did. I don't see Beilein wanting to deal with that

This isn't a news story. It's baseless speculation. There's no indication that Beilein has been contacted about the job or that he's expressed interest. Textbook clickbait.

I wouldn't be mad if Martelli decided to retire and JB a bit too old to start a new HC gig and who loves the Michigan program, slid right into that seat for a few years. Michigan would then have two of the best coaching minds in the game on their bench. Wouldn't be mad at all.

This is just me, but I'm not sure Juwan would want Beilein filling that seat on his staff. And I can't say I'd blame him for it.

I'm sure Juwan is eternally thankful for the state Beilein left the program in. He left Juwan a team full of winners, who had been in and won big games, and there was already a sound culture in place that Juwan could just tweak and build upon. But this is Juwan's team now. His program, his culture, and he may not want to risk any kind of power struggle with a former beloved coach coming onto the staff or having to hear any "Well when I was the coach here we did this and it worked" conversations.

I don't think Beilein would ever be the kind of person who would intentionally step on someone's toes like that, but especially if you still have players on the team who were recruited by/committed to Beilein, coaches who were hired by Beilein but are still on staff, Juwan will never want to be in a position where he has to question who someone's loyalties are to.

I think if Beilein wants to be someone who swings by practice every now and again, comes to games, goes out and does alum tours/fundraising/brand building for the program, Juwan would be more than willing to have it. But I wouldn't ever blame him for being wary of having Beilein on his staff and having an actual say in how the team is run.

pure speculation without basis imo

John is teaching at UM, never sold his house in AA, has a nice gig on B1G network...

I am surprised that people think he's a candidate for every job out there...

Is he yearning to go back to coaching? Probably a little, but it would vary by job...some job make sense, and some don't...

Arizona, under recent investigation, doesn't make sense, to me at least, at all

As a diehard Arizona basketball fan, I would be all for this. Unfortunately, I don't think it has a chance of happening. I'm betting on Pastner or Mussellman with Stoudemire being a dark horse. Would be pretty wild if Jed Fisch, Don Brown, and John Beilein all started coaching at Arizona. Literally merging my two favorite programs into one haha.
