Regarding Jedd Fisch

Submitted by Couzen Rick's on

I read an article (apologies, I've forgotten where) earlier that stated all Asst. Coaches were signed for 2-3 years except for Jedd Fisch, who is also making less than the rest of the assistants, save for Jay Harbaugh.  Combining that knowledge with the hiring of TJ Weist (who has experience coaching WR and as OC) as "Offensive Analyst" and Derron Montgomery as "primary receivers/grad asst," can we infer that Fisch will try and jump back to the NFL, or an OC gig at a Power 5 school, and Weist and/or Montgomery are being vetted to replace him? I don't understand why TJ Weist would come along as a non-assistant otherwise.

The guy has jumped around a lot in his career. No need to expect anything different here. I think he stays until someone offers him a position back in the nfl. Until then, having Jedd is a good thing, and will help in everything he does.

Wouldn't be surprised if he bounced. Probably wants experience working here than for some lowly NFL team. That way he can bounce back to a more reputable team next year with a Harbaugh rec

1. I don't follow your logic. You are asking if Jedd Fisch is making less because he will likely jump to the NFL next year? How does that make sense?

2. You upvoted your own post. Just awful. [And yes, I had to look to see who on earth would upvote this post.]

Jed Fisch's goal is to be a head coach.  I am guessing he approached Harbaugh for the position and was willing to take a short term deal for less money in order to learn from the best.  He was the only new coach that had not worked with Harbaugh before.

If he is successful/a good fit, I imagine he will receive a nice extension.

I think Fisch is pining for a head coach ncaa job, and is betting on being with Harbuagh to get it done. though i have no basis for it. Id think had he wanted to stay in the pros he'd have done so, unless hes hoping he will parlay this into a NFL job again, which is highly possible. The more I think of it this was a steal. jax with all rooks was actually decent

...in the event anyone is interested (from Wikipedia). Seems like he jumps around quite a bit, which a fair number of coaches with similar resumes (and higher aspirations) do:

P. K. Yonge Developmental Research School (DC) (1997)

New Jersey Red Dogs (WR/QC) (1998)

Florida (GA) (1999–2000)

Houston Texans (DQC) (2001–2003)

Baltimore Ravens (AQB/AWR) (2004–2007)

Denver Broncos (WR) (2008)

Minnesota (OC/QB) (2009)

Seattle Seahawks (QB) (2010)

Miami (FL) (OC/QB) (2011–2012)

Jacksonville Jaguars (OC) (2013–2014)

Michigan (QB/WR/PGC) (2015–present)

Is there a known connection to Jedd's jump from OC/PC in the NFL to this job specifically?  I've wondered this since the hire.  Because of the jumps,  I don't expect him to be around long,  but am more curious about the jump from the NFL to UM with no prior ties etc. Perhaps I am missing some tie he has to someone on the current staff.
