It's painfully obvious that the "Moore continuity" argument was just Warde believing whatever Jim said. "He's a nice guy. He beat Ryan Day. Sure, let's just go ahead and give him one of the most demanding jobs in the sport. What could possibly go wrong?"

Nobody in the athletic department seems to have actually had a plan ready for implementation once Jim bolted.

All of these contingencies should've been vetted long ago. AD malpractice.

You apparently think you're the only one here who possessed the super-secret information that Mallory joined Harbaugh's staff in 2021, or that Sam Webb has discussed on several occasions Mallory's importance to the defensive staff over the past three seasons, especially in 2023.

I would say so far we have held onto most of our players.  I will take that over an analyst we didn’t keep.

We seem to be doing better than Alabama and Washington with player retention.

Maybe let the coaching staff come together and not stress over every announcement or rumor.  Then complain afterwards if you don’t like something.

I get the sentiment to an extent but (a) you can only keep continuity as long as a much bigger entity, with more money and (to some) more appeal, isn't trying to come after your guys, and (b) they've thus far been able to stem that initial wave of transfers and decommitments that we saw at UW and Alabama.  Also, given when UM had to start looking for a new coach and who was reasonably available at the time, who do people think should have been the HC other than Moore?  I'm sure if DeBoer hadn't just left for Alabama they'd have kicked those tires, but otherwise you'd be trying to pull a sitting HC from a team about as late as you could imagine.

I don't know if Moore is going to work out but this place has also become just obsessed with doom-and-gloom everything despite the pretty unique situation that your sitting, NC-winning HC has decided he must take half of his staff with him to the NFL despite most of them having never served in those capacities in the league. and doing so in January and February.

No one will ever be able to take away what Harbaugh accomplished here but his legacy is now up in the air.  Lloyd left this program in shambles and threw it into the worst years of its existence.  I hope we don’t look back and curse Harbaugh for how he left and the way he pillaged the staff.

If we take off the maize and blue glasses for a minute, we should recognize that the entire 2023 Michigan football staff was hired by Harbaugh himself.  They are as much "his" as they are "ours."  And it's ultimately their choice to stay or go.

Moore/Manuel's job right now is to make staying at Michigan look more appealing to these guys than leaving.

Good luck to him - feels like there was a connection between the Ravens and UM and so guys must feel comfortable plucking guys up.

I do wonder if we'll hear some announcements about UM's side sooner rather than later, as the NFL staffs are settling out.

Looks like Roney is gone too -- the guy Elston said was critical. I guess the optimistic hypothetical is that Roney is taking the job Elston didn't want in LA. The pessimistic take would be that Elston is taking his right-hand man with him to LA.

Either way, this is quite the brain drain. We don't just have huge asst coach vacancies -- the analysts have been picked through as well.

I suspect we are about to find out exactly how good those analysts working for Harbaugh were.

Kinda ironic, everyone pointed to Connor Stallions stealing signs as the reason for M's ascendancy the last few years.  That wasn't it, it was having some mega-talented people all around Harbaugh making this high-performance engine run.  I really hope it doesn't sputter next season.

Does Warde ever plan for anything?

Realistically, who would you rather work for: the hugely accomplished coach who brought you to Ann Arbor, won a national championship, and now is offering you the same position in the pros, or his rookie successor who is years younger than you are?

A problem of hiring a 37-year-old is that his assistants can't wait him out.  If things go well, he stays in place forever.  If they don't, the whole staff probably gets fired.

Sherrone certain was a big contributor to the culture, but he wasn't the only one.  If they really wanted to maintain, then they needed to keep Herbert.  From the outside looking in, I'm not sure anyone was more key to that culture than Herbert.  Judging from player reaction to his departure really solidifies that.  He forged those kids into steel, and he will be missed.

For me it doesn't matter if Warde had anything to do with any of the other departures or not; Herbert's departure is the one that should be laid squarely in his lap and matters the most.

The biggest way Jim is going to be missed is his uncanny ability to adapt to staffing changes and usually come out smelling better on the other side. It was incredible the coordinator turnover we had in his years here and somehow the team typically was collectively better and looked better on that side of the ball through each. I think Moore is going to do a fine job with all the other parts of the program my biggest fear is he doesn't have the network Jim had to reach to and he certainly doesn't have the name Jim had to draw people to work for him to better themselves. If he can do this he will be successful at Michigan. If he can't we are going to see some regression

Moore does not have the network Jim does, but he has access to a vast network via Jim and Minter.

Until he proves otherwise, I'll give Moore the benefit of the doubt that he learned from Harbaugh during his 6 years under him and will build upon that foundation while adding his own handprints on the program.

Only the Michigan fanbase could meltdown so quickly just weeks after we won a National Championship.

Good coaches are in high demand, and they often leave. That's the price of success. Great programs are always replacing their coaches every couple of years. Sure, it sucks that we're doing it now after replacing Harbaugh but there was no scenario where we just kept everyone on staff.

I'd be more concerned if no one wanted our coaches. Let's all just take a deep breath and see how this all plays out first. We really have no idea what's going on behind the scenes or evidence that Warde is fucking anything up (this argument amuses me, anytime anything bad happens it's always Warde's fault).

No one important has hit the portal during this time. We haven't lost a game in over a year, and we haven't lost to OSU in several years.

We were gonna regress next year even with Harbaugh. You cannot lose your starting QB, RB, top two WR's and entire OL and not take a step back on offense.

But no matter what happens with the staff and players, what won't change is that Michigan just won a National Championship!

Only Michigan has lost their head coach and most of their staff after a CFB championship since 1997. And certainly the only football school in the age of NIL & the Transfer Portal.

Most of the staff?

Harbaugh leaving is not a shock to anyone, he's been doing this dance for years. And he took Minter and Herbert with him. Jay took another NFL job. That is three members of the coaching staff, not even close to most of the staff.

As I said above, when you have a great coaching staff they will eventually leave for other jobs. It means they are good coaches, and yes you have to replace them. But all the bitching I've seen here about how this is all Warde's fault or the sky is falling cuz we have no one left to coach is just absurd.

MAYBE, Clink and Elston and Hart leave. But they haven't yet. Nor have any players. I'm just saying, let's take a step back and wait for it all to play out. In the meantime, maybe we can enjoy the fact that we just won the National Championship instead of going all Chicken Little about what might happen next season based on pure speculation.

The glass half full is always welcome. My #1 concern is Warde Manual willing to give Clink and Elston is reasonable bump in pay in those guys are willing to be Co-DC? They should each make $1M/yr. After all, they are just as much a part of the 15-0, National Championship as anybody else on the staff.

Warde must set up for Sherrone's success with pay raises for those assistant coaches who want to remain and move up a notch or two. Warde has save a ton of $$ by letting Jim go to the NFL so where's this extra money going?

If Clink and Elston walk, I am less confident Sherrone can replace them with even better people.

Ok so I was like “good for the coaches, let’s see who Sherrone brings in as replacements” but you guys have convinced me to totally panic over a game college kids play, and a situation we have zero say, input or control over. In addition, this game has zero to do with the quality of my life. But you guys convinced me to get super mad at things and stuff. Might as well burn it all down and cancel football forever. Sky is falling, dogs and cats getting along, it’s the end of days, woe is me, tear clothes and gnash teeth.

The football drama never ends at Michigan. The sky is falling for those who think Michigan will repeat with another 15-0 season. Granted, this off-season has reached new heights given Jim's departure and the flux that follows.

For me, I'll be very happy with a 10-2 regular season in 2024 and will even call 9-3 as good. Best to set the bar low for next season which will be easier to exceed.
