Rashan Gary recruiting the entire ESPN150 for 2017

A few quotes from the article.

"The whole nation, I'm trying to get everybody on Michigan," Gary said this week at Paramus Catholic High School in New Jersey. "I want (Michigan to be a place where people) talk about it as a school that can go to the national championship every year. That's what I want. So I'm recruiting the best of the best."

"To be honest, I'm contacting the whole ESPN150 for 2017," said Gary, the top-ranked recruit in 2016. "I will be in your DMs.

Playing for a Conference Championship, let alone a NC.. 2006 was last time anyone seriously saw UM as a possibility, and even then with the team OSU had nobody exspect end UM to really be able to pull it off. But they damn near did.

I don't think that's right.  Every year we hear about guys on the team going after recruits.  One quick example off the top of my head, Delano Hill & Jourdan Lewis seemed to be recruiting LaVert Hill pretty hard last year.  And I swear that every year we hear about "<current Michigan player> is recruiting <former HS teammate 4* recruit>" and telling him how awesome it is up in Ann Arbor.

I'm sure it is different if the recruit is related to you, and maybe it is different for former teammates/friends, too, but I swear we read about stuff like that all the time, every year.

If someone knows better and I'm way off here, please correct me.

ive seen cases but they were wrist slaps, typically situations where programs self-reported minor violations.  thats about it.  players / recruits often interact via social media but ive never seen much of consequence arise.

itd likely take a coordinated conspiracy of players recruiting on behalf of coaches / programs on a massive scale to draw any meaningful response and ive certainly never seen that

"He knows he has pull moving forward and he says he'll do as much as he can to help sway other top stars to Michigan moving forward. Signed players, of course, cannot publicly recruit prospective student-athletes.

But they can always chat in private."

Looks like he can't recruit them publicly, but is allowed to chat with anyone he wants privately, so like he also says in the article, look for me in your DM's.

I can. Allowing them to recruit could put an enormous amount of pressure on them to do it heavily, either directly or indirectly by coaching staffs. You've seen how much time and effort it takes for coaches to recruit effectively. You want the players to be obliged to do that? They've got enough on their plates as it is.
