You can't drink from a firehose, and you can't catch a Howitzer's shot!  Gotta have different throws in football (and baseball).  What do you know?  Cade also played Baseball.  And, in high school Cade through 146 touchdowns while Milton threw just 35 TDs.  Nough said.  Start Cade

I remember Bobby Layne.  I was at Briggs Stadium (I’m really old) and saw Bobby perform one of the greatest stunts I ever saw.  He lined up in the T formation stepped back into the pocket and got sacked with a hard hit.  Next play he lined up in the T stepped back before the ball was snapped and kicked his right guard in the ass.  The crowd cheered.

I agree.  Yet another reason why JH's time is coming to an end.  His concept of "meritocracy" doesn't make any sense and is a lie.  He plays favorites.  Apparently if you block someone into the sideline and get a 15 yard penalty that's OK because it shows you're tough.  But, if you are an effective football player, but need to take a day off because you don't feel well, then you don't play because you're not tough.

I think JH forgot his job is to win games, not play the toughest guys.  He's not a Navy Seal instructor, he's a football coach.  You play the best players, period.  Like them or dislike them.  Tough or pussies.  If they are the best players on your roster and give you the best chance of winning, you play them.  This concept was lost on JH.

Clueless. Why name Milton your starter and have mccaffery jump ship if you were net 100% sure Milton was your guy. That alone should be enough to fire him. The guys completely clueless

Consider how lucky we are to have an open competition between cam newton-young and a guy who will inevitably be compared to future hall of famers once he plays a full half of football!

Dylan wasn't going to be the answer.

1. He couldn't beat out Shea Patterson who was good, not great. (2018: 55th in yards, 31st in YPA, 38th in Passing TDs, 2019: 33rd in yards, 35th in YPA, 32nd in TDs).

2. McCaffrey is fragile.  In just over 1 games worth of usage (35 pass attempts, 23 rush attempts, 1 reception) he has sustained two serious injuries (broken collarbone and major concussion).

3. McCaffrey was going into year 4 with the program.  If he hadn't separated himself by this point he probably isn't going to be a difference maker.

Now that said, he would have provided better depth.  But at this point I want to see if McNamara is the guy.  If he is the guy then he will take the reigns and not let them up.

I'm not so sure.  I don't think having McCaffrey would change much about the projection of where our football team is headed this year but if Harbaugh truly plays favorites as was detailed in Ghost's post, then he may have never gotten a fair shot.  Who knows what Harbaugh promised to get Shea here...

At this point, we'd be absolute fools to believe this coaching staff when they tell us player A beat out player B and won the starting job. It's beyond clear Harbaugh is going to start whoever he likes the most, regardless of whether they're actually the best player for that position on the team.

Burn down the crumbling remains and start over...

Yeah, I think there are likely two truths when people are trying to make it seem like it's either one or the other. First, McCaffrey probably wasn't going to start. With as much as so many posters know that he's a better quarterback, they really don't. What did he show us last year suggesting that he would come in and light the world on fire? Also, practice reports are practice reports, but there were numerous sources in the offseason suggesting that McCaffrey had decisively been passed before there were any rumblings of his transfer.

The second truth is that Jim Harbaugh really screwed something up in order to make McCaffrey quit while staying in school. This is a free season that doesn't affect eligibility. Something is absolutely amiss there. Having that depth would be huge right now. It would also be huge to have him around in case Milton is a practice warrior, whereas McCaffrey shines in games.

We don't know that... McCaffrey has immense charisma and is quite good... reckless as piss, yes, especially with those thin shoulder pads... but a team will rally around a kid like this, and everyone becomes better, and becomes a unit.    Was a pleasure to see him run...

We were told that MILTON was better and the starter.  So we believed it.

But watching we see Milton very nervous, throws INTs and guns the ball everytime.    McNamara puts touch on the ball and receivers catch it.  So you/we/me gotta with McNamara right now to have any hope.  He knows how to pass!

McNamara completed his first 4 passes and led Michigan into the endzone:

Harbaugh pissed off McCaffery and his mom and dad. Now we are paying for it. He was our best chance at winning these games. I wonder if thats why this team is quitting on him.

Whatever confidence that Milton had is clearly gone.  This is the only option.  Give someone a chance to light a fire with the team.  Might turn the entire thing around.

Seems so odd that McCaffrey opted out... makes one wonder if he were pissed thinking they were going with the big arm only.  And the over the top Milton praise may have been forced, knowing McCaffrey leaving and to save face.

Logic says there is more to this story, but I hope not.

I don't think a QB change will move the meter much for this program.  I'm very grateful to Harbaugh for giving me a reason to be excited about Michigan football again (for at least 3-4 years anyway), but there is clearly something going on with him.  He's a shell of his former self, and his ails have spread throughout the team.  It's been said here many times already, but I'll say it again; a peaceful parting seems to be in order.  I hope he can correct whatever has him looking like a zombie, but continuing this spiral is not doing himself or the football program any good.  I just hope the AD navigates this transition appropriately, and Harbaugh allows the program to move on successfully.

Soooooo, I sometimes go back to see how well my comments have aged, and this comment from me did not age well at all, lol.  You were 100% correct about McNamara.  I enjoyed watching him right the ship at Rutgers, and look forward to watching him from here on out!  We still have deeper problems than just QB though (that defense, woof) and I am not confident enough to predict a win against anyone else (not even PSU).  Time will tell.

People keep harping on the fact that Cade “looked bad” after his first big drive. He had two possessions after that. By then, it was pouring rain and both teams had pretty much called it a night.

^^^^^This

What little momentum we had was the Cade TD drive, then forcing a 3-and-out on the next Wisconsin possession.

When we lined up in a punt-block formation the result was only ever going to be RITK, I called it pre-snap.

That was as much an indictment of our coaching staff than anything else. JUST GET THE BALL BACK. Everything after that play was purely academic, and can be discounted completely.

Co-Workers son is on the team, and her son said Milton will still be QB1, said when the announcement was it was like the wind went out of the room.

Not sure if I believe the second part as the players all seemed pretty high on Milton.
