Parallels to 2011 OSU Game

Yesterday's triumphant 30-24 win over the treacherous Buckeyes will go down in fame and glory forever. But I am struck by how similar the ending of this game was to the ending of the 2011 OSU game.

Forced to settle for a field goal on their final drive, Michigan kicked the ball away to OSU with under two minutes ago, leading by 6. With the game in doubt, first-year starter Braxton Miller tossed a pass that was intercepted by native Ohioan defensive back Courtney Avery, to secure the 40-34 win. Time is a flat circle. Fuck Ohio.

2011 was closer than it should have been. There was a horse shot personal foul that negated a M touchdown late in the 2nd half that pretty much would have iced that game.

OSU should have been penalized on their key 3rd and 8 with 9 minutes to go.

Stover in motion was moving forward, more than a yard, when the snap was made.

It reminded me of 1997.  Very similar situation - Michigan had beaten top-3 OSU teams the two previous years and the stakes were high for both teams this time (we were #1, OSU #4).

A little more offense this time, but ultimately came down to OSU trying to drive the field down six (20-14 in that one, 30-24 in this) and the Michigan D finishing the job.

Thought so too. The past two OSU games were so lopsided in Michigan’s favor, especially the 2nd half that they actually reminded me of the reverse of many OSU ass-kickings handed out through the 2010’s.

OSU has such a quick-strike offense with their weapons that they don’t know how to bleed the clock and squeeze a defense into submission. I believe McCord threw the INT with around 34 seconds left from the Michigan 41 which they still had plenty of time to dink-and-dunk on the sidelines to get a legitimate shot in the end zone. Also MHJ should be viewed as a DPI machine in these situations and that could’ve been weaponized.

C’est la vie, buckeyes.

So I am curious. So for all our other B10 "friends" who went along with Lil Titti's horrible advantage, summary judgment narrative and themselves were housed by the Bucknuts; how do they now justify/explain that that dominant team that beat them itself was just beaten with no coach or sign translator? And ipso/facto the last two years where Conor/Chris weren't even on the team?

Kind of wipes that advantage theory right away even if they find some NCAA violation yet to be written. I look so forward to the next linguistic gymnastics of newfound violation holding another random person accountable for things that didn't occur as institutional representatives.

Are you paying attention so you don't erode further your credibility ESPN and cowering stooges? Go ahead...say something funny!

No one, not even the NCAA committee on infractions, seriously thinks this rule infraction leads to a real competitive advantage.  It was just a cheap excuse for other Big Ten teams to use to justify their failings to their own fans - and possibly a way (so they hoped) to chase the league's best coach out of the conference.

I enjoyed Matt Rhule going winless the rest of the year after he whined that his team's 45-7 loss was because of signs.  Ball don't lie.

I enjoyed watching all of the whiney, bitch ass, teams fall on their faces. Purdue (unfortunately beat Indiana to finish the season), Illinois, Nebraska, and Staee all fell short of bowl eligibility. FUCKING LOSERS.

And Minnesota (Fleck showed a ton of respect to Michigan and didn’t whine about shit) will get a bowl invite despite finishing 5-7 due to (I presume) academic achievement. Pretty great year all around.

I'd go even stronger and say this was 98% about teams like OSU and PSU getting rid of Harbaugh in a pitiful attempt to knock down a Michigan team they know they couldn't beat on the field. They figured that screwing with Michigan's coaching staff and upsetting their preparations in the most effective way possible -- make no mistake, this was all calculated, planned, and executed, right down to the timing of the announcement, for maximum potential damage to Michigan -- would give Michigan the crucial L, to either PSU or OSU, sending OSU to the title game and the CFP.

The dumbest thing is that other teams/coaches helped, with effectively zero potential benefit for themselves, but I guess the Michigan hate runs that deep. And OSU, as always, stood to benefit the most.

But they didn't. During this Thanksgiving week, that's what I am giving thanks for....

I think there were superficial similarities, but OSU that day played above their talent level and had no business being in a position to win it - they got 2 scores because Mattison was insanely aggressive with his coverage and could've gotten a 3rd on the overthrown bomb to Posey.  There was some coaching malpractice there (maybe Mattison was prepping early to betray us?), though to be fair Al Borges called probably the best game of his career there.
