OT: This year’s Spelling Bee champ
Informative.
And free of spelling mistakes too!
Cat C...A...T Cat
Terry Bradshaw just got eliminated.
The Hollywood Henderson quote about Bradshaw spelling cat is one of the all time great quotes in sports.
Yeah, but after Bradshaw threw for 300 yards (which was a BFD then) against the Cowboys, the headlines were all "Bradshaw can't spell, but he can do math."
Bradshaw got 4 rings, a bust in Canton, a long-ass plum broadcasting career, so he seemed to get the last laugh.
Hollywood got no rings, a prison sentence, and a long-ass rehab. But a chastened Henderson did eventually win the Texas Lotto and seems legitimately clean and sober and dedicated to helping others, so things managed to work out for both.
So did Dan Quayle!
/no politics
M-u-r-r-a-y-a as it happens. But the Groundhog Day guy was not involved.
Whatever the OP had posted would've been wrong had there not been trick dribbling videos. But what the OP actually did post was even more wrong than I was expecting.
BUNT. B-U-N-T. In perfect cursive. Any more brain busters?
Rizzuto
My college roommate was in a class with Gary Grant (M basketball player from WAY back) and he asked her how to spell "bum." So of course that was an oft-repeated meme in our house.
a t o n i c.
Couch...c o w? No...C o r r? Are you going to the mall later?
Biiiiiig oof. Clumsy hands clicked submit way too early.
Anyway, the post was supposed to be that this year’s Scripps Spelling Bee champion Zalia Avante-gard would be a perfect UM Women’s basketball recruit.
On top of being an amazing whiz and an all-time top name contender, she is a straight up baller: https://mobile.twitter.com/CJToledano/status/1413327051629613057
I hope Coach Barnes Arico gives her a good look.
Now this is the content I wanted in the OP! Nice.
I'm afraid LSU is going to make her a strong-ass offer.
This would be in stark contrast to the strong ass-offers they give their football recruits.
"damn strong"*
I think it would be great PR for the Michigan program for KBA to offer her a scholarship right now. The kid's obviously got the smarts, and she's got great ball skills too.
Great for her! What a brilliant and talented young woman.
I hope that I live to see the day when people are not described with "the first African-American.." anything.
Spelling Bee and basketball? A natural combination.
Imagine the variations of horse she plays.
I'd like to think she plays "Equine."
She knows how to play (and spell) SCHOOL!
“Basketball, I’m not just playing it. I’m really trying to go somewhere with it. Basketball is what I do,” Zaila said. “Spelling is really a side thing I do. It’s like a little hors d’ouevre. But basketball’s like the main dish.”
-Zaila Avant-Garde
Another day, another hobby.
I think this is what OP is referring to
I can understand OP's error. Gotta rush to post these things so you don't miss out on the 12 MGoPoints you normally get for these posts.
10.1.1Or clumsy fingers posting from a phone combined with lack of ability to edit posts
It's not these guys in case you were wondering...
they just saw someone in the stands they didn't know was going to be there
....nor these guys....
Must have passed this MSU class:
In their defense, mastering the correct spelling of O-H, I-O is an upper level grad course down there.
(As well as a mating call, obvs.)
Nor this person.
Mi casa es una casa Grande.
well, either she can get paid via NIL, or she can get paid to do the halftime show - i'd put those skills up against the bowl lady any day.
I was kind of the male version of her, back in my time. I competed in the 1999 Scripps National Spelling Bee, and also played basketball. Only difference is I went out on the first word, and was the last guy on the bench in high school. Other than that, exactly the same!
Ha. It's very woke of you to suggest that the male version of a champion and multiple world record holder is a guy who was unsuccessful at the same activities.
I don’t know much about the qualifying process, but it seems just getting in is a pretty solid accomplishment.
At the time, I had to win my school competition and then a local competition of my tri-county area. I think there were maybe 10 or so kids from Michigan that made it.
If you had identified as a female would you have made it off the bench for the girls' team?
....if they cared about sanitation and hygiene, they would use a toilet.
Never gets old. I wonder where she is now? Probably Congress.
You're right....
That is not correct but .... it would be hilarious if it was.
