OT: Wisconsin WR Markus Allen arrest details
Wisconsin wide receiver Markus Allen, who was in the transfer portal this off-season before choosing to return to Wisconsin, had some of the details of his arrest come out. Not only did he have an open container of alcohol, but his backpack also contained a gun that was reported stolen last June.
In case you don't remember, Allen was at one time committed to Michigan and was a high school teammate of Rod Moore.
I reflexively want to ask the kid what's wrong with him. But then I remember being 20 myself. May not have had a stolen gun in my backpack but there were often many other illegal items in my backpack and most likely open alcohol close at hand.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say I think we all did stupid things at 20 years old. Some, like having an open container of alcohol deserved a big shrug. Things like unregistered (I'm assuming), stolen firearms on your person? Yeah, that's kind of a big deal.
Oh no, not unregistered! 🙄
Most unregistered guns wouldn’t get reported if they’re stolen in states that require registration. Some states do not. So “unregistered” isn’t automatically an issue. Long guns don’t have to be registered so that would be the exception, but long guns not needing to be registered means having an unregistered long gun is no big deal.
So we can pretty safely assume it was a registered (though not registered to him) handgun (long guns wouldn’t fit in a backpack) that was stolen and somehow came into his possession. Whether he stole it or illegally purchased it from someone who stole it is something I’m not going to blindly assume.
If we're gonna be a country of guns we should at least be responsible owners.
Sounds like it's a bunch of young dudes doing stupid shit and trying to be cool.
Minimizing the stolen gun is absurd to the point of satire. Just pitiful.
Agreed. At the same time, making assumptions about it is equally absurd.
From what I know, there is no licensing requirement to WI's gun possession law*, so it's easy to imagine a myriad of relatively innocuous scenarios in which a person could come to be in possession of a stolen firearm.
* he was carrying it in his backpack, which likely counts as 'concealed carry' under WI law, for which he would need a license that he apparently did not have.
I mean, kind of depends. Did HE steal it? Or did he buy it from someone?
Doesn’t matter. I buy a stolen car, gun, dining set, phone, computer, grill, power tool ….. still a problem for me
Which is why he needs a fall guy!

Will any fall guy work or do you need THE Fall Guy, Lee Majors.
True story: I used to watch that show after long nights of studying. Even with the benefit of hindsight I have no idea why.
Probably the same reason most people watched it...Heather Locklear.
Ding ding ding ding ding. Winner.
Uh, I hate to be that guy but it was Heather Thomas.
In a different vault in my teenage spank bank.
[insert Randy Marsh pic]
Damn. I always confused those two back then, even though Heather Thomas had more (shall we say) distinguishing characteristics. I guess I still get them mixed up.
Edit: Apparently, HL was in 2 episodes of The Fall Guy, but yeah, I was thinking of HT.
Markie Post (RIP) too.
What does this even mean? Cultural swing and a miss.
I don't think badgers should be allowed to have stolen guns.
Non stolen firearms are fine
what about racoons? are you okay with racoons with guns?
That's not a raccoon, that's a rabbit.
Signed,
Thor
I'm in the racoon capital of the world, and I'm here to tell you that racoons with guns is the end of civilization.
Rocket Racoon was genetically modified, but watch out if he has a few litters of baby rocket racoons.
With the German and Scandanavian immigration to Wisconsin I would expect there to be lots of stollen.
That is why I was more of a Bo Jackson guy.
Well, he does have a Michigan offer, so keep your fingers crossed.
If he doesnt have at least 900 yards rushing in a game dont want! Nice find Magnus.
Eh. Guy likely did something dumb, but I’d never take on face value a police report that’s looking like it’s trying to generate cause for a search.
Markus Allen? (NTMA)
When you're handed opportunity, it's best not to hand it back. At the school where my wife teaches, we had a boy enroll as a sophomore this year. I met him before school started and realized he had the potential to be a handful. His parents saw us as a last resort and kind of just dumped him in our dormitory. I plan on seeing him tonight before he goes home for the summer and telling him how proud I am of how he's turned his life around. He realized he was on the wrong path. He toned down his outrageous behavior and asked to be baptized. He's still got plenty of rough spots, but I'm going to encourage him to strive to be a leader next year in the dorm, in the classroom, just walking down the hall. The departing senior class is one of the best I've seen in the 20 years we've been here and will leave a student leadership vacuum for someone like him to step into.
I know that went off on a tangent, but I'd rather hear the redemption stories. This kid could have buried himself but instead has begun to put a firm foundation under his life.
Great story. We should never give up on kids that we can collectively as a whole, assist.
I'm not a religious man (too many hypocrites in my experience) but there was one youth pastor from back in the day that helped me and would talk about actual teenage stuff. Told me smoking pot wasn't actually that big of a deal. Wear condoms so you don't have to make a bigger decision.
He still emails me once every few years. Your impact in that kid's life is even bigger than you can imagine. Most wayward teens WANT consequences - it means someone gives a shit about what you do.

I honestly don't remember this at all...
It was during the COVID shutdown of the world, so there were some minor distractions at the time.
Huh, I always thought Markus Allen was a USC running back? And as well all know, no USC running back could ever commit a violent crime!
They do borrow heisman trophy’s though
Back in the day in LA, Marcus (Ytma) and O J (pre murder) would come to the club I bounced at. Marcus was always gracious.
years later (post murder) playing football in New York, we got put up at the downtown athletic club, the place that had the Heismann ceremony. In the special heismann room they had pictures of every winner….except OJ.
Why would you have anything on you that’s guaranteed 10 years in prison?! Like, anything. Stolen gun, dead body, kilo of anything…it’s pretty short list, actually. A stolen gun is bye-bye long term and I’m assuming he’s not restricted from owning a firearm legally. Is it just cool? I get they’re untraceable but I’m not going to trust this guy knows how to not leave other marks and/or prints. Really dumb bs if you ask me.
edit: the only answer to my question is: to commit crimes with. I was being facetious but that’s really why.
If you have a dead body on you, you are a very large and terrifying person. Or you are dead yourself, in which case you may be in a Schrödinger's Cat type of situation.
Maybe he was banging OJ's current GF and the gun was there just in case OJ jumped out of the bushes with a butcher knife.
Open container is dumb, but plenty of us did stupid shit like that in college and got MIP’d. That won’t (and shouldn’t) ruin your life as long as it didn't also involve getting behind the wheel of a car.
Having an unregistered firearm? Yeah thats dumb, and depending on the circumstances behind it can be really dumb.
Carrying a firearm of any kind while also involving alcohol into the mix? Doesn’t get much dumber than that. Don’t care what your stance is on firearms in America, but if you’re dumb enough to be drinking while carrying a gun, then the 2A is not a right I’m sure you should be allowed to enjoy.

Depends on where you're at. A number of years ago I bought a gun, and when I took it to the sheriff's department to register it the receptionist sent me away basically saying it wasn't really necessary and they couldn't be bothered...
here in Ohio it’s constitutional carry. No license or registration. Just walk around with a gun in your pocket
I bought an AR (just fun to shoot) and a tactical shotgun (home defense, far better than my pistol I’ve had for 23 years) and it took 25 min.
Federal / state background check for felonies and domestic violence passed in 15 min, hand over the credit card, done.
I may be wrong, but didn't he give some poorly worded comments about UM after committing?
I remember feeling invincible at 20. Not that I had a gun or walked around with open alcohol (at least most of the time) but fearlessness can make people do dumb stuff.
We avoided one with not getting him
