OT - Wisconsin not impressive against Illinois

Submitted by Flying Dutchman on October 19th, 2019 at 2:51 PM

Wisconsin kicked a FG to go up 23-14 in the 4th over Illinois.   The Badgers aren't exactly blowing out the Illini.   Just going to leave that here.    College football is weird.

Illinois are a bad Big Ten team, but they aren't a bad MAC team. Most importantly, it doesn't feel like they've given up on their season and coaching staff unlike Rutgers. Illinois is trying. They clearly tried hard vs us, they tried hard vs Nebraska. The outcomes aren't good because they are bad, but they aren't generally lambs led to the slaughter.

That was my thought.  And now my thought is I hope Wiscy re-focuses and goes into Columbus with their A-game and crack the bucknuts.  M needs that to happen, Wiscy diminished our B1G championship hopes, we need them to give us a little help now.  Assuming of course M takes care of business going forward...

Ohio State is going to beat the living tar out of Wisconsin next week at the Shoe.  After an entire week’s buildup as an “intriguing” matchup, this won’t even come close to living up to the hype.

The suicide watch for the posters here at mgoblog will go up three levels.  And we’ve been on suicide watch since the Army game...so next week is going to be....bad.

Luckily for Wisconsin, they’ve got 5 other great performances to lean on. Would mediocre vs Illinois and n’w, but that’s ok.

For us, Illinois was our second or third best performance of the season. Which is not good

To the contrary, Illinois is impressive against Wisconsin. That last TD pass by Peters was DO and only where Imatorbhebhe could catch it. Peters is a solid QB who throws a good ball. Corbin & Brown are good RB’s, and the OL is doing a great job making holes and giving Peters enough time to unload it. Illinois as a team is getting better, and they’re getting TO’s like crazy.

Shane Morris 56% of his throws for an average of 7.3 ypa at CMU.  Those are below-average MAC numbers.  Peters completed 9 of 21 passes for 8.3 ypa, and most of that came on a 50 yard catch and run.  They are both serviceable QBs, and I think Peters is an average big 10 QB, but it's revisionist history to act like they got much better after UM.

Peters was 9-21

if anything there back little guy and the bigger one made some plays.

I feel better about UM after this game. Think our run D is rounding out. And maybe our running O could be turning a new page. Jury still out on the O obviously.

think OSU blows out Wisc. But at least now Wisc will be dialed in for sure after a week of getting chewed out
