OT: Will Coach Prime be successful at Colorado?

I am curious to hear what folks think about Coach Prime's chances of being successful at Colorado? I think clearly he is going to be able to improve their recruiting. However, at Jackson State he was able to recruit FBS talent to come to an FCS program - which gave his team a huge talent advantage over the competition. He's not going to be able to do that at Colorado. Even if he gets very talented classes, he is only going to be on par with some of the other Pac 12 programs (although it helps him that USC and UCLA are leaving). Point being, I don't believe he's going to be able to create as big of a talent gap over his competition as he did at Jackson state. So it will really come down to coaching. He's going to have to hire a very talent coaching staff.

Some other food for thought: Will his style wear on the fan base and administration? As much as he says he wants to create attention to benefit the players, I have a hard time believing it's that altruistic. He's always been someone who relishes the spotlight. I was a little shocked at the way he talked to the team - basically telling them all to jump in the transfer portal so he could make room for his guys and introducing his son to the media by saying "here's your quarterback". Additionally, he has made some comments about not really embracing NIL (I want the kids to think about N-F-L and not N-I-L). One thing is for sure - it will be entertaining!

Those who stay will carry my luggage, or get kicked out the door.

I won't be rooting for Colorado, but I will watch. He can't do much worse, but he might do worse. I don't think he does much better, but the record improves. Maybe they win 3 games (Neb/Colo St/+ 1.) Then only the portal knows.

I don't like programs that are not about the students. I will have to see who stays, comes in, and what their stories are. I'm not buying Prime as a fan. Maybe there are kids out there who will though. The media is behind him.

If he does do well, he is not there for long. I will judge him by Jackson State's condition in 3-5 years more than Colorado's. His style seems toxic. A lot of coaches are.

Honestly can't wait for the last TCU game this year, and the first one next.

I can't imagine he was happy that nobody in that room stood up and told him they were going to outcompete anybody he brought. He probably wasn't surprised either, though.

Colorado’s current amount of roster talent is ranked 11th in the PAC-12.  The only team in the conference with less talent is Washington State.

There have been conversations in other threads about talent, development, desire, scheme, and coaching.  Deion will find players interested in meeting him, official visits, etc.  But, will those talks and visits result in commits - and, if they do - will it look like A&M - OR - a team that develops talent, runs solid schemes, and has a coaching staff that positions them to win the key games on their schedule.

If I were to place a wager, I would expect Colorado to recruit better and have a stronger record.  I am still not “sold” on his ability to develop a roster and coach the team to significant success.  I don’t have a horse in the race - so, I would expect Colorado to be a bowl eligible team in the future - but, winning the PAC-12 will be a challenge.

It will be interesting to watch.

News is Primetime is hiring Kent State's HC as OC and Mike Zimmer (former Minnesota Vikings HC) as DC....

Deion ain't no dummy......   My big question was how well can he coach?  Its been well discussed how attracting talent to JS was probably the biggest factor to his success, he just fielded considerably better athletes than his competition... In the Pac 12, he won't has AS large a talent advantage, so coaching will matter....

Maybe his coaching isn't as big a factor, if he hires the right people around him, and it sounds like there's going to be a ton of experience on his staff.     This could get pretty exciting.....

Get chya popcorn ready....

Hard to tell how successful he will be at CU.  It's not all about having the best players.  It's also about cohesion, chemistry and players/staff buying into the mission.  Sanders is brash and I can see that attitude clashing with more than a handful of people that thought they knew what they were getting into.  And once you get a handful of people dissenting then the bad vibes can percolate through the program.  Also, this isn't small-time Jackson St where you can bully and will your way to wins more easily.  It is a P5 school in a P5 conference with next level competition -- opposing players and coaches are on par with your guys.

We'll see what happens.  I have no doubt he will elevate the program from where it is today.  I mean there are a lot of coaches that could make Colorado better than 1-11.  But will they be a top 15 program again?  Who knows.

I think the key point is that Deion has HUGE variance in terms of outcomes. And when your Colorado, that's exactly who you should hire. Not some guy who might improve you from 2-9 to 5-4. You're risking absolutely nothing, so swing for the fences.
