OT: Wagner Chief Prigozhin Believed Dead in Completely Accidental and Non-Suspicious Plane Crash

Submitted by Sopwith on August 23rd, 2023 at 1:49 PM

Multiple outlets reporting Yevgeny Prigozhin was on board a small plane with 7 passengers and 3 crew that crashed while en route to Moscow from St. Petersburg. LINK

It's believed the plane may have slipped and fallen out of a window on a high floor.

Check the wagers you made when the "Wagner Group Rebellion" occurred June 23-24. If you had "he survives 60 days or fewer" you still cover. I took the early line at 30 days and bet the under so I'm out $100.

His days were numbered. He should've gone to Africa, where he'd would've been protected by his forces there. It'll be interesting to see what happens in Africa now. There's a power vacuum, which gives the West an opportunity.

Africa was where Wagner was making their money.  Not sure if operations change much.  I doubt Putin as the reach to change much there. May be more of a fiefdom-ization of Wagner operations.

I suspect Ukrainian operations are in for a shake-up.  Another mutiny, more chaotic than the last, could be in the cards.

Article says he was on the passenger list, not the plane. Big difference there.

This whole saga has been so soap opera that I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a “but he survived! And escaped with a wig and mustache! And lived happily ever after in…ummm…Belarus…” coda.

Right? I could see this working out for both Prigozhin and Putin. Putin gets to look tough again by having everyone belive he got revenge, and Prighozin gets to dissappear quietly out of the spotlight.

A plane crash with no identifiable body seems like an optimal way to get that done, innocent victims be damned.

In Putin’s Russia, where nothing is true and everything is possible, it’s not far fetched. Even less far fetched is that Prigozhin in fact died but they’ll make it look like it may have been a staged psyop just to keep people on uncertain ground. That is the bent of Muscovite propaganda: to maintain perpetual disease and uncertainty among the population, to obliterate the notion of truth as something capable of being verified.

So then how surprised would you be to learn that there was a second plane, also owned by Prigozhin, that landed safely in Moscow shortly after the first one crashed...

I'm going to put my money on "Prigozhin arranged for the first plane to be shot down, to create a diversion that would allow him to land on the second plane and escape Putin's grip".

The Twitter account itself is fairly reliable, as far as I know. But I'm taking all of this information with a huge grain of salt.

To be clear, I was mostly being facetious about Prigozhin arranging for his own plane to be shot down to fake his death. All of this is pretty bizarre, but if reports are getting out that his body has been identified in the wreckage...well, it's hard to refute that. (But then, I also question who is releasing the information to the media saying he has been identified. Hence the grains of salt.)

The fact that he would get on a plane ever again is crazy (at least within Russia).  The fact that OTHER people would get on a plane with that guy is maybe even crazier.

*Also not completely sure he was on the plane.

The most surprising aspect to this is 9 other people were willing to get on a plane, in Russian airspace, with this guy.

My thoughts exactly.  If I'm saying "Honey, I'm heading out on a business trip with my boss -- you know, Yevgeny Prigozhin -- see you at the end of the week," I'm also saying "And for no particular reason, I've been meaning to tell you that you can find all of our financial passwords in a file in my sock drawer."

Prigozhin was so distraught that he shot himself in the head, twice. One of the bullets ricocheted, striking both the pilot and the copilot, and the plane just happened to careen into a live fire SAM exercise area. Very tragic...
