Meyer said earlier today that he doesn't have any intention of coaching again in CF.  He said that the NFL has just intrigued him over the last few years.

He also promised Day and AD Gene Smith that he would not raid the OSU staff with the possible exception of one.  It looks like that "one" is director of player personnel Ryan Stamper who also played for Meyer and is a Jacksonville native.

Urban may have put himself in a good position here--if Jacksonville drafts Lawrence and if Lawrence is as good as advertised. Saban never had a decent quarterback at Miami (unless you count Gus Frerotte, which I don't). Meyer will have a chance to put his system in place with an excellent quarterback prospect.

Having said that, Meyer may not be able to develop him properly or Lawrence may end up as a bust.

My hope is that he hangs on long enough to poach Ryan Day's better assistants.

Urban has adjusted his scheme to fit his personnel, power spread, spread to pass etc.  The offense with Haskins wasn’t the same offense used with Tim Tebow.  Not saying he’s a lock to succeed in the NFL, since you’re correct he won’t have a talent advantage.  but he will almost certainly  find the best scheme for the talent he has.

Agree with Stephenrjking and Cranky Dave. Urban is a spread guy, but he is a very flexible offensive coach who always adapts his offense to the players he has at any given time.  He's not going to go the NFL and try to pull a Chip Kelly.

The bigger issue is that Urban has gone his entire career without developing a true NFL quarterback. I feel like that is a byproduct of his ability to simplify things for his quarterbacks, which gives them success on the college level, but doesn't adequately prepare them for the things they are asked to do in the NFL.

But the NFL is a quarterback driven league, and it is going to hard to compete if you don't develop a quaterback who can make all the throws, recognize all the looks, and make all the reads and adjustments that the top NFL QBs can make.

Well, he did have a hand in developing Alex Smith. But, his main strength, in my opinion, has been the ability to take the QB he has (whether he inherited him (Alex Smith, Braxton Miller) or recruited him (Tim Tebow, Dwayne Haskins) and make him into the best QB for his team, resulting in wins. That's what a coach is supposed to do. The NFL is a QB driven league, but the QB has to have the right coach behind the wheel. It pains me to say it, but I think Meyer is one of the best when it comes to that. Plus, he's always found great offensive coordinators, so he's been able to let the OC work with and develop a great relationship with the QB, while focusing on running the entire program. I think that's 100% transferable to the NFL.

But but but all my osu friends said that he wouldn’t come out of retirement because osu was his dream job. He wasn’t going to pull the Florida exit to them because he has morals now!
