OT: (UPDATED) Rich Rodriguez Out At Arizona
Intresting development. https://amp.usatoday.com/amp/996856001?__twitter_impression=true
MOD EDIT - apologies to BoFan, who did post additional information (did not realize that the paranthetical comment was not showing on the mobile app, so readers there apparently didn't see that the thread here had been updated). Feel free to post that here, regarding his being fired without cause as the allegations apparently could not be substantiated. - LSA

I don't really like how they can fire him while being cleared by an invvestigation. Any money grubbing staffer gets dollar signs in her eyes(while the student loan bill mounts) and sees an easy way to ggive herself some relief. I'm not a fan of this at all.

They'll still make a better hire than their rival.

thats a pretty low bar to get over though.

Only one good season (PAC 12 south champ).
If his wife leaves him soon, then MAYBE I'll believe the allegations.

It's definitely an odd situation - Arizona is paying the buyout, but felt the need to add that their investigation turned up something on him, and then he reveals this. Yeah, I guess there must be a lawsuit ahead, because otherwise I assume they'd just say it had to do with on-field performance.

The letter to the Arizona AG giving notice of the impending lawsuit is in the public domain (I posted a link downthread). I don't know how the University could possibly avoid mentioning it.

When you violate employment law and buy your employer a $7.5 million dollar lawsuit, you're probably in for some shit.

You're kidding, right? Penn State and it's fan still think that JoePa, along with themselves, are still the victims there. They wouldn't bat an eyelash at it.

They hired their head coach fresh off a sex scandal. I have no idea why they've gotten a pass on hiring Franklin after what had just happened at Vanderbilt.
January 3rd, 2018 at 12:53 PM ^
RR and his family are getting up in years and I don't think his wife is hot enough these days to meet Franklin's standards.

That's a bummer, I was rooting for him at Arizona. I also don't see them getting anyone better so it's a lose/lose situation.

So to take the heat off their lucrative basketball program's scandal, they create a new scandal and fire the coach of an even more lucrative sport?

Khalil Tate would be a nice fit in Scott Frost's offense.
January 3rd, 2018 at 12:25 PM ^
I think Tate stays. Otherwise, yes NU would be dangerous with him. At least he'd have to sit out the '18 season and we wouldn't face him in Sept.

buyout will be bigger than Arizona's

Probably time to call it a career, RichRod. Even if the sexual harassment allegations aren't true, I think it's safe to say that everyone has figured your offense out, and you still refuse to field defenses after all these years. The game has just caught up to, and surpassed you.
Take a year or two to lick your wounds, go take some low-pressure gig commentating somewhere, and then if you still really think coaching is for you, head to the MAC, MWC, or somewhere with minimal expectations at best.

Reading the story, having the woman suing him cover for his affair with ANOTHER woman, and having her play referee on the sidelines at USC between Rita and the other woman - WOW!
Tucson isn't big enough that others around the program didn't know something was up.

I agree his head coaching career is probably done other than with a small college team, but he is and was a damn good OC and any school in America would do well to hire him
January 3rd, 2018 at 11:43 AM ^
I was rooting for Rodriguez at Arizona and thought he was a decent guy, but I lose a ton of respect for anyone who's unfaithful to his/her spouse. I hope his career takes a downward slide from here.

The more I realize how much your point about being faithful rings true. I don't know of too many marriages that survive even those "open relationships" we hear so much about in popular culture. But I have several friends and many acquaintances whose lives were completely up-ended because a spouse (whether husband or wife) strayed.
January 3rd, 2018 at 12:23 PM ^
is I wonder if the stressful situation at Michigan started the cracks in his relationship and then Arizona was his place to drift away and mess around.
I'm wondering what would have happened if he had just stayed at WVU, Bill Martin would have known how to use his phone on the yacht, and Les would have come to UM. I'm still much happier with JH than Les - but I don't think MD would have gone 6-1 vs. Les.
As to life situations and people messing around, I've seen several cases in my time of people whose career or interests get in the way of marriage and often times it's NOT the left behind spouse who was unfaithful but rather the person who focused on career or interests. just. damn. sad.

He had everything - nice weather - nice wife - no pressure given UA is a BB school. Lower standard for victories (just go 8-5 and beat ASU half the time), etc.
