OT Uniformz: Tennesee's new Nike alternates

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Tennessee just left adidas and will officially begin with Nike tomorrow.

Their alternate uniformz have leaked and uh....yikes

Hopefully this isn't in violation of the MGoUniformzOrdinance code. But since tomorrow is the day and Tennessee is back in Nike.....

Adidas hasn't been really relevant since RUN DMC.  Kids wear Nike gear, period.  You don't really see Adidas that much at all.

I thought that the first UTL uniforms were ok mostly because I thought it was a one time thing probably. When we wore uniformz 4 other times that season, they all became shitty but that may have been me just wanting us to wear our actual uniforms for one game.

The alternate doesn't look great but it's also hard to tell from that picture. I think most people are expecting a Hello: Nike post soon but I'm holding out hopes for UA. They did a good job of preserving The Chickens classic look and would do a fine job with our uniforms as well. Nike will show some nice looks for UT though. I look forward to seeing their new gear.

Ever since Nike has focused on brand consolidation (for teams not named Oregon) their uniforms have just looked a little too cut-and-paste to me.

Out there in a Nike board room someone is asking "How wed are you to the color blue?   Asphalt is a good look.  Metallic Asphalt.  How about Metallic Asphalt fading to blue with Chrome Yellow inverse helmets.  And flames."

When will this end? All of these companies are trying too hard to be cutting edge with their designs. I'm all for changing this stuff up and whatnot, but, a bit more subtle seems the way to go.

Colors aren't ridiculous, the design is pretty sleek, and I like the 'endzone' stripe on the back of the helmet. That's a design detail that actually makes sense for the Vols and doesn't feel forced.

The major negative is that inexplicable swath of gray on the helmet, but maybe that looks better when you see the whole thing. Also, I don't like the two swooshes on the same side (shirt/pants). Seems redundant.

Maybe 7/10. Lower 7s.

The worst part is, Tennessee's traditional home uniforms are unique and pretty cool as well. These are atrocious. Tennessee had horrible uniform experiments with Adidas as well, which makes me think this is promoted by the AD.

I think the smoke grey is a nod to the smokey mountains of Tennessee. It's not a random black for the sake of wearing black, or grey for the sake of wearing grey. They have worn grey unis for a few years now. They also wore black a few years back. The grey makes a lot more sense than the black. Also, the women's basketball team has had baby blue in their unis for as long as I can remember. Grey and baby blue are like unofficial colors for the football and women's basketball teams.

Hard to tell with all the smoke. But I like them.

However, UM should just choose converse, or fila, or whatever company will design uniforms that were the same that their father's and grandfather's wore. Cause Christ, Michigan is all about tradition, and by that I mean that they despise change.

I mean it, why bitch about which brand the players wear? You guys can't stand change.

Our helmets are the most recognizable in college football but I doubt any recruits would say it is the coolest. When I see small colleges or high schools wearing it...I think they look dumb.

Tradition is incredibly overrated, especially when during the ages that the new recruits actually started paying attention to football, we were a solid 50th best team in college football for about a decade.
