OT: Todd Marinovich (From Bo's Last Game) Charged in Bizarre Naked Drug Case

Submitted by BursleyHall82 on

The fall of Todd Marinovich continues. He was arrested in August after being caught naked and with drugs in a backyard in Irvine, Calif. (Not sure where he was carrying the drugs if he was naked.) Marinovich was charged today. The story is here. You have to see his mug shot. He's 47, but looks 77.

Marinovich was the "Robo QB" whose dad Marv didn't let him have sugar or hamburgers while growing up, in the hopes of creating the perfect human.

Michigan fans will remember him as the USC quarterback in Bo's last game - the 1990 Rose Bowl. USC won the game, 17-10, after a BS holding call on a succesful fake punt thwarted our efforts to tie the game. I'm still mad about it.

is a hell of a drug. Now that mugshot looks like some meth and and alcohol was tossed in for good measure, over the course of many years... Tragic.

I don't find any of this even remotely funny. If you've ever struggled with addiction or know someone who has then you know that it's a real thing -- if it's not a disease then it's very much like one. Once it hits you it's almost impossible to stop. But whatever. Put all that aside. Is it honestly funny to see a guy who has thrown his life away for drugs? I don't get it.

Please realize that the lighting and camera equipment found in our jails often are the pits - hence, the obligitory bad mug shot photo.

The lighting in this photo seems a tad harsh...

around the block a few hundred times.  I prefer the '89 Rose Bowl, which was the last one I attended, which had a better turnout.  Michigan beat USC 22-14 after trailing 14-3 at halftime.  That USC team though had Rodney Peete at QB.

Wasn't that the game where the refs supposedly were trying to get back at Bo during his last game for yelling at them over the years.  I thought one of the B10 officials fessed up years later.

Not sure if true or fiction.

If you're excellent at holding a grudge like me, the main person you remember from that game is Jim Kemberling, the ref who threw the flag on Stapleton's fake punt. He joyously bragged after the game that he threw the flag on purpose to screw over Bo and after the PAC 10 ref was told this, he personally telephoned Bo and ratted Kemberling out. Kemberling retired from on field officiating in 1998 but he now works in the booth. He was the one who reversed the MSU touchdown against Indiana this past weekend.

And I remember the announcers having great fun at Bo's expense cause he got so upset at the call he drew a 15 yard unsportsmanlike conduct call.  I remember Bo sceaming at the bastard who threw the flag "who was it on" over and over and not getting an answer at first and when he did finally answer he gave him initially the number of somebody not even in the game.  I remember watching that play about 100 times thanks to my DVR looking for ANYTHING even remotely looking like a hold and not finding it.

The PAC 10 officials fucked Bo over each and every chance they got and were proud of it.   If you were a Michigan fan in the 70's you got very used to watching Michigan get positively hosed in Pasedena time and time again.  Why we never demanded neutral officials is beyond me.

Now I'm pissed off all over again.

I was in 4th grade when that game was played and I remember watching it live but at that age, I was just a fan, not a fanatic quite yet.

Years later, I got the stomach to go back and watch that play and you're absolutely right. It's disappointing that Keith Jackson and Bob Griese laughed that whole situation off as Bo getting angry again when it was an obvious screw job. Especially when they already had a history of calling out bad calls while broadcasting games at that point.

Jim Kemberling is evil. If you go back and watch pretty much any Michigan game from the 80's and 90's, you'll see that jackass on the field officiating.
