OT: Todd Marinovich (From Bo's Last Game) Charged in Bizarre Naked Drug Case

Submitted by BursleyHall82 on

The fall of Todd Marinovich continues. He was arrested in August after being caught naked and with drugs in a backyard in Irvine, Calif. (Not sure where he was carrying the drugs if he was naked.) Marinovich was charged today. The story is here. You have to see his mug shot. He's 47, but looks 77.

Marinovich was the "Robo QB" whose dad Marv didn't let him have sugar or hamburgers while growing up, in the hopes of creating the perfect human.

Michigan fans will remember him as the USC quarterback in Bo's last game - the 1990 Rose Bowl. USC won the game, 17-10, after a BS holding call on a succesful fake punt thwarted our efforts to tie the game. I'm still mad about it.

Well yeah, but what I meant was former players who go on to become criminals, drug addicts, scumbags, etc. I can't think of a program with a more prolific track record of turning out players who go on to become less-than-model citizens than USC.

some mj and coc for personal use.

i am reminded though of one of my teamates who had played with marinovich on the raiders.  my buddy had blown a snap (he was the center) and instead of letting my friend take the rap, marinovich basically said, 'my bad.  run the play over!'   marinovich was a good teammate.  drugs are bad man, they get a hold of someone and they can ruin them.

I thought he was getting himself squared away after watching the Marinovich Project and seeing him on the round table after Trophy Kids: State of Play.

Helluva an example you're setting for your son, Todd.

too long ago. He is an accomplished artist who was making a real living selling his art. Obviously took a bad turn back. Hope he finds his way.

This probably isn't what Irvine had in mind when it adopted the slogan, "City of Innovation", but perhaps Marinovich just felt compelled to try something new while in town.

You certainly weren't kidding about that mug shot - I am about 8.5 years younger than him but he looks about 30 years old than I do. Sadly, it is a testament to what that level of abuse can do to a person. You hate to see these stories generally, particularly about someone who - at some point - had so much promise.

Thanks for the info, Wolverine Historian and others. OK, here's the sonofabitch who threw the flag on the fake punt in the 1990 Rose Bowl. You'l find his profile and his picture here.

You just made the list, buddy. Right up there with Spartan Bob, George Steinbrenner and Scott Frost.

greg was at ucla then and pointed him out to me and greg's brother- 'see that guy, he's a usc [expletive].   he will [expletive] you at some point during the game'.   lo and behold, the false flag appeared at the most critical of times.  might be the worst call ever.

Jim Kemmerling was so biased against Michigan. It would be interesting to see the game results for all of the games he called. I'm pretty sure he officiated the MSU game where Sparty converted on fourth down to stay alive and win the game. I think it was Derek Mason, and he was clearly a yard short.
