JV was on ???,  complete game 2 hitter with 0bbs and 11ks (Still root for him...hoping he wins that 2nd CY this year).

Fortunately, the good guys were able to make the most of those two hits, both of them solo shots, and their own great pitching in a 2-1 shocker.

Biggest upset (vs Betting odds) in at least 15 years.

Yes they're awful, yes many of you don't care about baseball, yes it's just one meaningless regular season game, etc...

Still a cool night and reason to smile in a season with few of either!

I thought for sure Jimenez was going to blow it.  Good thing Chirinos  needed the triple for the cycle and tried to leg it out in the 9th.  If he stays at 2nd with a double who knows how Jimenez would have fared.

Also, JV did not work out of the stretch all night.  Just crazy that he lost that game.

You left out that the 2nd hit/home run was in the top of the 9th and that the last play of the game was a double that Altuve tried to stretch into a triple when his fly ball went past the diving Triple A player in right field and the Triple A player in center picked up the ball and hit his Triple A cutoff man who threw it to the Triple A player at third base and they tagged him out by miles. If you're only going to watch one Tigers game this summer, it should be this one.

Edit: I see the comment above mine says it was not Altuve. Oops whatever.

No worries Jumbo. You were right to not do a whole game recap. I'm just as excited as you are. I was rooting for the JV perfect game until the first hit and then figured Go Tigers.

And thanks for setting me straight, Fish. I'm glad I was thinking of Altuve for a reason and I'm not completely crazy.

There were some huge losses on the Astros last night, but I haven't yet seen any reports of a huge win taking the Tigers in the money line.

Hurry up, MN legislators, I need to gamble!

Great night for Vegas. Was reading an article on it. Astros were -575 money line or something absurd. Reports of people betting $55k to win $10k. Insane. Not to mention that game likely blew up every parlay known to man.

Anybody have any money? Let's open a sports book.

Verlander also had the Free Press' Anthony Fenech kept out of the clubhouse until after he was done with his post game scrum. The Freep is bitching about it, but whatever man.

It's a violation of an agreement between the MLBPA and the BWAA.  So it's not even a First Amendment issue.  That's like saying guys shouldn't be fined for criticizing the officials because of the First Amendment (which is actually an argument I could support).

JV doesn't have to talk to him, but the team can't bar a credentialed reporter from the locker room because of the aforementioned agreement.

And yet there's hope for the future, though it is probable the Tigers are just as bad next season.  Mostly because the farm system finally has some talent, such as Riley Greene.

I went to a Whitecaps game in GR on Monday, and although Greene only went 1-for-4, he hit another drive for a deep out.  But even more impressive is his defense, with two more sensational diving catches, the 2nd of which was shown on FSD during Tuesday's Tigers game, one of the best catches I've ever seen.  This kid has all the tools and is gonna be a good one!

Meh. It won't take him much time in the majors for the Tiger naysayers (Dombrowski sucks! Avila sucks! Chris Illitch sucks! Castellanos sucks! Cabrera sucks!) to find holes in his game and tear him apart. I've watched the same people complain about how Castellanos sucks and Avila needs to trade him, Avila sucks for not trading Castellanos, Avila sucks for trading him and not getting enough in return, etc. Now they're saying Avila sucks because he traded Castellanos who's such a great hitter. I'll be so glad when the Tigers turn the corner in a year or two and start winning again just to shut those guys up. I used to go to a game chat during Tiger games and hang out online with some guys. It's gotten so toxic that I don't go anymore.

You know that commenter criticism is starting to reach the point of being overbearing when OPs start to regularly include disclaimers at the end of their posts.

I don't know why OPs care. If you're going to make message board posts, expect a small percentage to be angry about the quality or relevance of your post. It happens on every single one of them.

Same with the double posts. If you really checked but still post something a second time, you're going to get negged to bolivian. It doesn't matter if you plead with the board for leniency before posting you Keith Jackson obituary. Just save that "SIAP" and "I searched and didn't see it" nonsense.

If you think it's worthy, post it like a man and live with the consequences. You'll live.

(That said, the concession in this particular OP didn't bother me. Acknowledging that the Tigers are barely worthy of discussion is accurate)

It was a fun game to watch, especially with zero expectations when it comes to the Tigers.

For one night the pitching was great, the defense stellar.  Sure the hitters looked completely overmatched 99% of the time but even the Astros lineup would have looked bad against JV last night.

Two good swings were enough.

Do a lot of people bet on baseball?  (Other than Pete Rose...)

It's such a low-scoring game and so dependent on the pitcher having a good day . . . seems like a weird sport to gamble on.

JV has been filthy good this season but has had a serious problem with gopher balls. He's in the top-3 for most given up and may even be the leader after last night. Luckily for him most of his allowed homers have been solo jobs because he limits walks and hits in general.
