Absolutely loved his self titled solo album from late 80s. Amazing song writer - "Broken Arrow" also covered by Rod Stewart was one of my favorites.
Big loss for music - RIP...
That is a good album. Being a big fan of The Band, and not a big fan of how RR ended it, I remember being skeptical when I heard he was doing a solo. But it is a really good record
Showdown at Big Sky was always a fav of mine.
Legend. A couple of classics. I'm partial to The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down.
The movie documenting The Bands last concert “The Last Waltz” was a great homage to a great band. Also speaks to Martin Scorsese’s superb talents as a movie maker.
So sad to see about the passing of Robbie Robertson, a fine guitarist and outstanding songwriter.
I started following Robertson and his primarily-Canadian group "The Band" because of their long association with Bob Dylan, then I stayed on to follow them as they moved successfully from under Dylan's shadow to leave their own mark with their own unique blend of folk, rock and country blues.
In my mind Forever Young, rest in peace Robbie.
(Robbie and The Band along with Bob Dylan, this is my favorite recording of this great song)
Just love some Don't Do It. Another big loss for music. Probably going to throw on that self titled album tonight in honor.
I met a guy that went to high school with Robbie. He said he was just a phenomenal musician at 14, played trumpet.
I later did some work with the production company that did "When We Were Brothers" They said Robbie was a gracious and a personable pro. The director was 24 and Robertson really went to bat for him.
Here's the playing for change version of the weight.

RIP Robbie... Always felt the rendition of "Who Do Ya Love?" on the Last Waltz was a glimpse into that initial rock n roll energy that The Band found playing back in the ol Canadien bars with The Hawk. And Robbie just tears it up & down, sideways & backwards.
EDIT: The Ronnie Hawkins album version is what I had on my mind, sounds like its recorded live in one take.

The Last Waltz is an iconic concert, but the best documentary about The Band is Once Were Brothers.

Always well spoken about the musicianship of that era of music. Some dudes are just supremely talented and also sometimes a holes to those around them. Quite common it seems. Rest in peace. His art will forever put a smile on the face. so good.

Garth Hudson was the oldest of them all too!
Guess my mother was on to something making me take all those keyboard lessons.

As a kid I always liked the " The Weight" with crazy Chester. The night they drove old Dixie down w and "Up on Cripple Creek" were good as well.
