OT: RIP Meat Loaf
Meat Loaf went to the (dashboard) light at the age of 74. What an unlikely but fascinating career.

He would do anything for love
But he won't do that

A rare photo of Chase Winovich hanging out with the Legendary Meatloaf.....

He would do anything for love, but he wouldn't get vaxxed.

Should be an obit on sorryantivaxxer.com in 3...2...1...

Fun fact, despite his stage name, he was actually vegetarian or vegan for much of his adult life.
January 21st, 2022 at 12:27 PM ^
That is surprising since most vegetarians/vegans I know are very thin. Meat Loaf appeared to be obese through most of his life. I guess it gives us fat people some hope that we can live long as well.
January 21st, 2022 at 1:08 PM ^
This guy is a vegan. No Kidding.
January 21st, 2022 at 2:16 PM ^
Like anything else, it depends what you eat. If you eat a lot of carbs, which is easy to do as a vegan, that will jack your insulin levels. Insulin is a fat storage hormone, so whatever your diet, if your insulin is high you will always have extra pounds.
RIP meatloaf, Paradise by the Dashboard Lights is a great song.

Tofu will help you pack on the pounds.
January 21st, 2022 at 5:30 PM ^
Isn't Prince fielder a vegetarian? I wondered how he could be so corpulent but yeah, I think it's carbs. And just because someone's a vegetarian doesn't mean they don't eat junk food.

Rocky Horror Picture Show viewing party tonight…

Hot patootie bless his soul. He really loved to rock and roll.
RIP Eddie/Meatloaf

Hillary Farr from HGTV love it or list it was also in the Rocky Horror Picture show. She was Betty Munroe Hapschat. For being in her 70s she look really young on the HGTV show.

not to quibble, but she's 69---still looking far younger than her age

TMZ is saying COVID. Be safe, people.
January 21st, 2022 at 8:20 AM ^
Some obituary headline this morning (NYT?) referred to him as "beloved." Really?
Maybe it's a generational thing, but I always just associated him with campy rock, not as anyone actually adored or even admired.

I was a Freshman at Central Michigan (went there one year & transfered) when both Van Halen I and Meatloaf's Bat out of Hell were released. There was a little record store there that me and a couple of guys from the dorm (Robinson) used to go to almost every day. I'm pretty sure VH I was released first and was the most amazing album I had ever heard. Then we saw the Meatloaf album cover and figured this just HAS to be even more amazing given how bad ass it was.
Needless to say the music on Bat out of Hell didnt exactly match up to the cover. Nice album if you're into that type of sound but definitely NOT VH I for rocking out.
RIP Meatloaf.

VH I
I read that as VH1, for some reason, which is exactly where the videos from his comeback album in the 90's would only show.
January 21st, 2022 at 11:06 AM ^
There was a little record store there
Was it New Moon Records? Growing up outside of MtP I went there often as it was really the only music store in town. I remember going there in the 80s and 90s, but it's long since closed.

YES! Thanks for nice memory.
January 21st, 2022 at 10:28 AM ^
It's definitely a function of place and time. Mr. Loaf's grooves (lyrics and structure) were way out of the box vs the disco dreck and the formulaic method of song composition used by lots of his contemporaries. BooH had singable songs that were relatable to high school honrdogs (Paradise) and grizzled veterans of imperfect relationships (2 out of 3).
January 21st, 2022 at 9:58 PM ^
As a matter of corporate policy, I give out +1 whenever Meat Loaf is referred to as "Mr. Loaf."
Very respectful and I can appreciate that.
January 21st, 2022 at 10:49 AM ^
He's just another godawful '70s album/arena rock act that churned out ponderous overwrought treacle about teenage angst.
January 21st, 2022 at 2:23 PM ^
Don? Really? His music was/is so much fun!
January 21st, 2022 at 2:28 PM ^
Oh c'mon Don, a man just died and you have to throw shade on him. Man, the times in which we live.
January 21st, 2022 at 3:41 PM ^
“ponderous overwrought treacle” is a nice example of an autological phrase.
January 21st, 2022 at 8:24 AM ^
Im just glad he was finally able to let Jack Black free of his religious clutches and follow his dream of rocking with the D.
Jokes aside loved his theatrics and voice, rip !

A fact probably only interesting to me, he coached high school softball. The girls called him Coach Meat.

Paradise by the dashboard lights. My youth anthem. Devastated. RIP my good man, that song brought me so many tangible blessings and was acted out on the dance floor with much laughter many times here at UM. This just sucks.
January 21st, 2022 at 8:47 AM ^
Aww, man. Bat Out of Hell was a great album, and the video for Paradise By the Dashboard Lights was awesome. Truly a unique performer. May he see paradise by the dashboard lights.

RIP Mr. Michael Lee Aday......

Jim Steinman died last April. An amazing pair together again. RIP Meat Loaf. Bat Out of Hell was the first album I ever owned.
January 21st, 2022 at 2:24 PM ^
Steinman had several huge hits with other singers as well. Restraint was never one of his traits.
January 21st, 2022 at 9:08 AM ^
I guess he broke out of his body and flew away, like a bat out of hell.
January 21st, 2022 at 9:12 AM ^
RIP meatloaf
January 21st, 2022 at 9:13 AM ^
No! He was awesome live even later in his career. That guy gave maximum effort.
January 21st, 2022 at 9:33 AM ^
RIP Meatloaf, one of the best concerts I got to experience.
Like a Bat out of Hell save travels to Paradise by the Dashboard Lights.....
January 21st, 2022 at 9:53 AM ^
One of his backing singers is my neighbor. “Hamburger Helper” has quite the pipes. RIP Mr. Loaf
January 21st, 2022 at 10:17 AM ^
A little tangential Meatloaf trivia: the singer Karla DeVito, who was the female in the video of "Paradise by the Dashboard Lights", is married to former 1970's teen heartthrob Robby Benson. My husband's best friend from childhood lives in LA and is good friends with them. I can't imagine having Robby Benson and Karla DeVito over for dinner. They're practically a cultural phenomenon in and of themselves.
January 21st, 2022 at 11:48 AM ^
When you first see the name Karla Devito does anyone think of Karla from cheers? The name kind of works.
January 21st, 2022 at 3:44 PM ^
In a similar vein, I think Meatloaf’s daughter married Scott Ian from Anthrax.

Absolutely rocked on the Free For All album with Ted Nugent

I never really understood the line, “I would do anything for love but I won’t do that”
Sounds like Snazzy logic.
