He might be finding out that his ticket isn't going to Paradise

"Cause what you buy, is what you own. And what you own... always comes home to you." Awesome book - horrible movie(s).
September 13th, 2019 at 11:43 AM ^
damnit - that was my joke (and probably 90% of the people who remember his music's as well).
Well played

edit-Paradise joke already taken

RIP. I've heard some interviews with him, seemed like a really interesting guy. Blast "Take Me Home Tonight" with the windows down if you can today!
September 13th, 2019 at 10:50 AM ^
Well, he has definitely earned his ticket to paradise.....too soon?
In all seriousness, rest easy Eddie, really enjoyed back-roading in high school and listening to your music while enjoying some beverages.

Dude made two of the greatest songs of all time and had been DTE's summer opener for over 25 years. Last name Money. RIP to a legend.

Sure...if you like aiding and abetting a felon, because he shot a man at the Mexican border.

Last name was actually Mahoney. "Money" sounds more rock n roll.

Way underrated as a rock "entertainer". Still love pulling out his Greatest Hits albums and listening to "Shakin", "Think I'm In Love", "Take Me Home Tonight" - and his concerts were a blast.
A week ago, on a whim, pulled up "Gimme Some Water" on Spotify - was really fun to hear. The tunes always bring back some great memories from back in the day - when all you needed was a 40 ounce Mickeys, a boombox, and a good cassette.
RIP, Eddie.

Back in about 1985 I rented Eddie a car in San Francisco because of an accident (my company was like Enterprise). Anyways apparently Eddie didn't like it cause 3 days after the rental started we called him for a deposit or something and he informed me he had never driven it and it was still where it was parked originally. I asked where the keys were and he told me he still had them.
Long story short we got into a shouting match cause he didn't want to pay (the bill was probably around $50) and I was adamant that if you have the keys and dont notify us the car is available I can't rent it to anybody else.
My early brush with celebrity privilege. RIP Eddie.
September 13th, 2019 at 12:01 PM ^
Your company only had one set of keys per car ?
September 13th, 2019 at 3:26 PM ^
No, we just didn't know he wasn't in it cause he hadn't called the office and didn't give us back the keys.
Technology was a wee bit different in 85.

RIP, Eddie.

70 Eddie Money years are better than 120 regular guy years. Throat cancer from smoking and eating pussy. There are worse causes of death.
RIP.
September 13th, 2019 at 11:41 AM ^
Eating pussy does not cause throat cancer. The other thing, yes, it does.
September 13th, 2019 at 12:03 PM ^
Yeah it does. From HPV. Which pretty much everyone over the age of about 25 has.
There's a vaccine now, but it's relatively new. And some parents don't get it for their kids, because getting cancer is an appropriate punishment for being promiscuous.
September 13th, 2019 at 12:05 PM ^
IIRC, Michael Douglas would beg to differ.
September 13th, 2019 at 12:18 PM ^
All depends on the type and location of the cancer. Oral sex (HPV) can cause oropharyngeal (throat) cancer. But most common cause of esophageal cancer in the USA is usually lower esophagus due to GERD, smoking, and alcohol. Based on the history and news reports, my guess is he had lower esophageal adenocarcinoma--not related to HPV and oral sex.
September 13th, 2019 at 1:19 PM ^
And so it was..... Hatter simply made the point that Eddie increased the odds of throat cancer by one or more of his vices.
September 13th, 2019 at 1:40 PM ^
I get that. But the reports make it sound like he had esophageal cancer, not throat cancer. Throat cancer is not esophageal cancer. That was the point of my post.
September 13th, 2019 at 3:37 PM ^
Now wait just a damn minute. In no way did I mean to suggest that eating pussy was a vice.
Let's just be clear on that in case any women still read these threads.

His "Unplugged" album gave me a deeper appreciation for his talent

A friend of mine was a pilot for a small airline that served northern Michigan. Eddie Money had been "slightly over served" before he got on the plane, to the point that he had to be removed. As security was taking him off he had one of my favorite rock star lines of all time,
"You can't kick me off! I'm Eddie Money!"
RIP Eddie. Take yourself home tonight.
September 13th, 2019 at 12:36 PM ^
This sucks. Saw him at DTE many times. RIP eddie and thanks for the memories
September 13th, 2019 at 12:43 PM ^
Saw him in a bar in Charleston, back in, I dunno, 86, 87, 88... somewhere around that time. He was on tour with Cindy Lauper, and made the trek over from their tour stop in Atlanta. Had a lot of good stories, but one had us rolling - he said he was happy to be in Charleston just to get a day away from Cindy, because she was a huge bitch!
I don't know if she was, but he said it and the place hit the floor laughing. It was a great show he put on, we had a real good time!
September 14th, 2019 at 7:18 AM ^
I just want to know what you wore to a Cindy Lauper concert

One of my favorite bits of music trivia is that Eddie Money's real name was Eddie Mahoney.
