I wish I had better news, but I’m told UMMC has transitioned into comfort care measures for Coach Mike Leach. It’s essentially hospice care at this point.

I’m told he’s been largely if not totally nonresponsive since the cardiac event yesterday morning.

It appears to simply be a matter of time now. It all seems so unfair. Life is fleeting. Tell those you love who much you love them. Forgive, forgive, forgive.

We will not be working to break the final story. We will respect the family’s timing on all of that. Yes, we have a story ready to roll, but we will now await the official and unfortunate word from the University.

I can’t believe we’re even having these discussions. It’s so surreal. He isn’t just our football coach. He’s Mike Leach, a national treasure. I’m honored to say he was our coach for three seasons. It’s also nice to remember that he’s going out a winner.

Please remember his family, our coaches and players in your thoughts and prayers.

I love you all and Hail State!"

I'm 61 also, and so was my wife who passed away two months ago. I had the advantage, if you can call it that, of knowing for the past four years that she wasn't going to get her three score and ten because of the cancer which had first appeared more than a decade ago. As she said on our way home from the hospital for the final time, "I've given you ten years to get ready for this."

Mike Leach's family didn't get ten years or four, and that has to be painful. My family and I all had our opportunities to say our goodbyes. My hope for his family is that they are able to overcome the suddenness and to know that Mike made a positive impact on many, many people across the country. May they find joy in their memories of him, as I have with my partner and best friend.

Really, really sad news.  This makes me think about how stressful and difficult it is to be a College _Footbal Coach.  I know that successful coaches make a lot of money, but boy I think most of them really make huge sacrifices and push their bodies and health to their limits.  Not saying it Coach leach's case, but it would not surprise me.  Hope for the best possible outcome of this for him and his loved ones.

Always thought of him as the Beilein of college football, underrated smart coach who does more with less than anyone. Crazy how just like that life ends.

I hope all of those close to Coach Leach, especially, his family - are able to visit with him, if only for a few minutes - regardless of Coach’s consciousness.

As someone who “lived away from home” - and rushed to the hospital as soon as I heard about my father’s “major infarct”, only to arrive ten minutes after he passed away, I know what this loss is like.
My father wasn’t as well known as Mike Leach - but, there was always love and respect.  It’s extremely personal, and I wish peace and comfort for the entire Leach family.

Met Leach at the American Football Coaches Association convention years ago at a mixer before he became a head coach. I didn't know anyone there, and he was the first one to come over and start a conversation with me, obe that went on for quite a while. No agenda, talking about various subjects only tangentially related to football. Just a genuine, curious guy who was simply open to knowledge, ideas and experiences.

i guess he was gone yesterday, and was on life support. there was that tweet asking for prayer for a miracle. it was a shock to read yesterday.  so sudden. it looked like everyone was trying to keep it on the down low that he was gone

Was never really a fan of Mike Leach personally, but no one can deny that he has/had a notable independent streak and always made things interesting.  A true maverick.  Hopefully he is as comfortable as one can be when he passes.

If it's true that he was down for fifteen minutes before receiving CPR as reported, he would have a terrible prognosis. Prayers for him, his family, and his team.

Another victim of the coronaries. Don't smoke, don't smoke, and please don't smoke.

And try to get good genetics.

I hope he pulls through. The college football world would be a far lesser place without him. Some other posters here mentioned it but he’d be an absolutely fantastic addition to the Gameday crew.
