OT: Noose found at UM Hospital...Not actually a noose.
Wanted to post this since it was a topic of discussion several weeks ago. Looks like the most logical answer was the right answer.
Worth posting because there's often a lot of hand-wringing and "oh, the racism everywhere" when one of these stories comes out and almost no interest from the same people in what actually happened when the investigation is complete.
Good news all around.
no noose is good noose
Damn, this is maybe the most clever comment I've ever seen on here lmao
And,what's the odds StateStreetApostle nailed it on their 7 1/2 year ANNIVERSARY (in just two days)?
thank you very humbly. i was always most proud of this throwback
No noose gnews is good noose gnews with Gary Gnu.
Anybody else remember Gary Gnu?
I'm with you, man. I used to roll with the Great Space Coaster and Honeycomb cereal in the AM.
Ladies and gentlemen, log into all of your burner accounts and upvote this man.
Without Gary Gnoose
Good one centurion......like it, like it.
So no "Book em, Danno?" ending to this one?
Sounds like someone really jumped the gun on this one
No no no! This can’t be! What am I going to be outraged about now?!
Oh wait, there’s the Michigan sports banner on the CBS twitter feed...

They'd have good reason to be concerned if they had Army on their schedule.
Or a local YMCA team
Very weird flex.
Here, I expected to find a few comments expressing relief at learning that a potentially racist incident on campus turned out to be false, and reaffirming the pride in upholding Michigan as a place that is safe and welcoming of students of all creeds and colors.
Nope. Apparently this is just an opportunity to slam everyone who dared show concern over the possibility of a very serious racist incident on campus, because obviously that is the important takeway here.
It wasn't a "possibility" to some people here. It was a fact.
That's B.S. Nobody in the original thread claimed to know anything more than was in the email distributed by the University.
The email itself was exteremely straightforward:
1. A noose was found on campus.
2. We will take immediate action to have this investigated.
3. Racism and hate crimes are contrary to the values of the University and will not be tolerated.
That's it. No individual was accused, nothing more than showing that the University will treat this incident with the seriousness that it deserves. Nobody claimed to know anything more that that.
These takes about "concern trolling" and "what will people find to be outraged at next" are shitty, shitty takes. This was a very concerning incident, and people were right to be concerned. Chastising everyone who cared about this as "concern trolls" severely downplays how serious this could have been.
"How serious this could have been".
...what?
Quick, we gotta keep that concern ball in the air!
IF this was fishing line or a fine rope, I think that kinda makes a big deal. I am glad UM took it seriously but this seems like a pretty big jump the gun kinda reaction
Your assumption that an innocuous piece of rope would somehow make Michigan unwelcome to people of "all creeds and colors" is ridiculous. Dont you thin kn it would take something *much* more significant to have such an impact. If anything is a "weird flex" here, it's the concern drama such as yours.
How about this? CNN is reporting that this was found on Stanford's campus yesterday:
I've learned that I shouldn't believe in racist incidents on campus, so how do I avoid jumping to conclusions? I mean, someone just used this innocuous piece of rope to help themselves climb a tree and accidently left it behind, right?
Someone please tell me what to believe here:
Comments on this are even more wild than I remember.
I didn't catch that post originally, but seeing your article and the responses on that thread make me shake my head. Perfect example of jumping to conclusions.
Not by everyone on that thread. Hate to say I told you so, but...
I just saw your comment at the end of the first post. Well played.
Damn! Your measured and reasonable response was so outrageous it made someone start an account to tell you off.
And the person never posted again after that topic. Hilarious!
I've heard a few noose stories over the years. This is the first one that wasn't legit. Maybe there have been others. I don't know. In my experience, when a noose shows up, it's usually a hate crime.
If this is a normal occurance, why isn't it common knowledge that ropes tied in loops may be lying around in random places in the hospital?
Sometimes I wonder if the poster “Bambi” is just a very dedicated troll. Taking into account the username and how this person acts, it’s tough for me to believe there is an actual person out there with those opinions and instantly assumes the worst about everything and everyone.
Lol don't worry baby, I'm real.
"The people who put that notice together have more facts than you or me. So telling everyone to wait for the facts, when right now you have none and the people who do have facts think this is an act of hatred, is really backwards"
That comment of yours didnt age well.
But that won't stop them from freaking out the very next time as well!
Calling those responses in the original post ‘jumping to conclusions’ does a disservice to arriving at conclusions. It is much more reflective of Confirmation Bias. Placing expectations on outcomes is pretty corrosive to arriving at well-reasoned conclusions.
So is Marschall Runge going to be reprimanded? Granted it followed the AA/UM protocol on virtue signaling and assuming anything that could possibly be a racist hate crime must be... his response wasn’t exactly even keeled.
This story will probably get buried by lunchtime and no accountability for his comments will come of it.
Shocked! Shocked, I tell you!
The sad part is, based on some of the comments in the original post, there seem to be people who might be disappointed that it wasn’t a noose.
This is definitely true.
Welcome to America.
So that's where Jussie Smolletts noose got to
So a couple things:
1) Looking at what a uni-knot looks like I 100% can see where someone may think it’s a noose.
2) You shouldn’t be so flippant about people that were concerned about this. Racism is real and is a real issue. If this HAD been a noose meant to intimidate would you have said anything about how people were correct in being upset?
3) (On a lighter note) I work for the university and when this email we couldn’t help thinking of the amateur fisher that had saw the initial email and thought, “Oh shit...”
I feel like if someone was going for a racist gesture they would have hung it up somewhere not left it in a storage area/room.
Don't bring rational thinking into this.
Or they would just tweet it...
How much time have you spent at the hospital? It would be extremely difficult to hang a noose without getting caught with all the foot traffic. I can't recall one time in the last 2 1/2 years there that I have been in an area alone unless I was in a room waiting for the doctor or in a single person restroom.
I believe it was found on a shared workspace, not in the storage area. If I am understanding the chain of events, person #1 was practicing fishing knots and left it in the storage room. Presumably person #2 (maybe one of the people with the shared workspace), brought it to said workspace, person #3 found it on the shared workspace and reported it.
