OT: Megadeth Drummer + Mr. Brightside = ?
I am not a Megadeth fan (I only know Symphony of Destruction) but I found this video while wasting some time on YouTube. I thought it was interesting how the drummer (Dirk) approached the process of doing a drum part for the song that he apparently never heard before and the results of the session were quite entertaining.
Mr. Brightside is not OT in my opinion. Thanks for sharing.
It's not OT because it's the single worst thing about Michigan Football.
I saw this yesterday. It is a neat concept. I ended up watching the one where the jazz style drummer did the architects song too.
I enjoyed it a lot and actually subscribed to the channel. It is certainly cool to see the parts where they hit very similar or where extremely different.
There was one glaringly unfortunate thing. How can anyone in music, especially rock not know Mr Brightside?
I'm not at all surprised that a guy in Megadeth has no idea about the song and wouldn't be surprised if he had never heard of The Killers. I feel like rock/metal musicians in general pay zero attention to popular music, especially if their career is in its fourth decade
The guy is only 48, and has only been in Megadeth for 7 years.
He's about 10-15 years young for the band.
Not to mention that before Megadeth, he was part of and toured with a Swedish melodic death metal band called Soilwork for years. Met him once at a show, actually. Very chill.
Even if it's not your style, the drumming in this song is insane. He's been one of the best in the metal game for a decade. Honestly I'd never heard of The Killers or Mr. Brightside before the Michigan football context evolved.
= A fun watch.
Very interesting to see a different drummer adding his own style on a song.
This guy is taking the drum world by storm right now. He's a generational talent. Dude is insane.
I'll post a drum cover and then another drummer doing a reaction video:
This guy is absurd in all the right ways.
Very cool video. Btw Symphony of Destruction has one of the greatest guitar riffs ever
There’s a YT video of Symphony of Destruction, live in Argentina, from a decade or so ago. That crowd is absolutely insane. Love that video!
That was really cool. Thanks for posting!
That was pretty cool, thanks for posting. I’m not knowledgeable enough to know what is actually going on there but it was cool to see his take and how quickly he got there.
I can't imagine having the sense of rhythm needed to recognize the beats and sub-beats in the song, let alone the dexterity to duplicate them. This was great to see, because it's all magic to me.
He isn't duplicating them.
He is hearing the song without drums, and CREATING a drum part on the fly.
Guy’s a pro. Captures the basic accompaniment on the first take. Give him three more passes through and he would nail it. Playing sessions means, first and foremost, don’t waste studio time.
I would love to see a breakdown of the economics related to the cost of studio time. Admittedly, I know nothing about the subject. I imagine the equipment is insanely expensive and that there is high demand to use it. Are there engineers that have to be employed to run it as well?
That's funny, I have been sharing this with everyone I know. Quite impressive and fun to watch. I love how much the guys in the studio are just enjoying Megadeath guy's sheer awesomeness.
Few things are better than watching a master at his/her craft.
This is just how good professional session musicians are.
Note that he isn't recreating the recorded drum part - which would be impressive enough from a single listen... he is charting the whole song without drums, and creating a drum part on the fly from a chart he made in a single listen to the tracks minus drums.
Especially interesting because the Killers' drummer, Ronnie Vanucci, is probably the most technically advanced musician in that band. They're all good but he is really good.
Drumeo has a bunch of really cool videos like this. They have had more jazz/pop style drummers go and play some metal tracks from bands like Tool & Slipknot.
I love how they play them the song with no drum track before eventually letting the drummer fill out the drums in the style they think fits. They tend to get pretty close to how the original drummer played with some really interesting little changes.
this was incredibly interesting
amazing
I love Megadeth! thanks for posting!! Check out Peace Sells y’all!
pre-dates the first gulf war!
