OT: M Alum needs playlist for between games at Senior Girls softball World Series
Last year, I did the PA from scorer's box behind home plate for a girls LL World Series game (wore my M hat )
This year, I am doing many games, and am allowed to create a between inning playlist. The big idea is to avoid "Girls Just Want to Have Fun",
Of course, this is a Little League event, so we need positive songs with no nasty stuff. "Centerfield" by John Fogerty works. I like "Level Up" by Vienna Teng (from the M commercials)., anyone want to suggest stuff from this century?
You've got to pump it up
Don't you know pump it up
You tied my hands pretty bad with "this century", but may I suggest, play to your audience and make sure P!nk, Katy Perry, etc. are well represented. And, if there are any teams from Latinoamericano, can't go wrong with "Danza Kuduro".
Mr. Brightside for sure.
You should just play the macerena song endlessly even while the game is being played
I know you're joking but I prefer Danza Kuduro (Fast Five soundtrack) for my Latin dance music fix...
Unstoppable by Sia would be a good one
I asked my 20 year old daughter who played softball through high school so she knows the market. She gave me two playlists from Spotify. Here are the links. She said they're not all upbeat but you can probably pick the ones you like, or think they'll like. One is "clean" -- no bad words -- and it says it in the title. I can only link one in this post for some reason so I'll do the other link in the next comment. Gives you a good lead to look for more. She said Tiktok songs are good.

Here's the "clean" one.

Here's the next one.( sorry, this is the same link as in my original comment. I put the clean one in the response to the comment above).

Not that you asked but I like Makeba by Jain and Na Na Na by Lay Bankz on this list (Gwen Stefani did a song with sampling of "If I Were A Rich Man" back in the early 2000's, I think, and it was pretty good, too)
Wow, my age is showing, because I know so few of those songs. It's also funny that TikTok "discovered" a Ghost song that was released years ago. It is interesting to see what is popular with kids now.
songs from soundtracks like Barbie (Pink) and Into the Spiderverse (What's up Danger, Sunflower, Start a Riot)
"All Star" by Smash Mouth; "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor; "Rock You Like a Hurricane" by The Scorpions. These tracks will surely appeal to today's girl youth. No, don't thank me! Just here to help...
Instrumental from all female Japanese band
Along those lines, might I suggest, Gimme Chocolate. As an added bonus, that could drive concession stand sales.
I recently saw my teenage niece and can confirm that she is a big BABYMETAL fan.
You've got to pump it up
Mr Brightside is very popular with the younguns
Katy Perry's Firework seems empowering
Dura by Daddy Yankee is less than 10 years old, and not obviously inappropriate
Then play Naatu Naatu from RRR just to show you're so hip
Another good one is "Can't Stop the Feeling!" by Justin Timberlake and Anna Kendrick from the Trolls movie.
And maybe "Hooked on a Feeling"? How about "Hooked on a Feeling" by David Hasselhoff?
Yes!! David Hasselhoff would make a great ambassador for the Softball LLWS. Perfect fit.
Day 2 of the tournament.
Simply spectacular!
Taylor Swift - especially anything post-“1989”
Blackpink - k pop at its finest
Bebe Rexha-You can’t stop the girl
Rachel Platten-Stand by you
Dear Tiffany,
Burn it down and walk away.
I believe in indoctrination at young ages...
The Victors
Yellow and Blue
Varsity
Hawaiian War Chant
Temptation
Hit shuffle on the player and you're golden!
Possible contenders
- Barracuda-Heart
- Pump Up the Jam Technotronic
- Funkytown Lipps Inc.
Criteria
TLDR-is a pump up song and is not about sex, abuse or being "Just a girl" and is by women.
I don't know a lot of pop music in the last 30 years unless it is a really big hit. I really like Bad Reputation by Joan Jett (especially hafter that Kick Ass movie, Hit Girl was awesome), but it says damn and I'm not sure but it might have a jail bait type theme. Cherry Bomb by the Runaways (Joan Jett was a member) is great, but definitiely has a bad girl theme with sexual overtones.
It makes me sad that most of the rockin songs by women are about sex, fighting abuse or are meta about being "just a girl."
Rejects
- Veruca Salt-Seether-I looked it up and a seether is a vagina.
- The Breeders-Cannonball-I guess it is about someone who is reckless in love. Also bong reference.
- PJ Harvey-Down By the Water--Pretty sure that's about suicide or something after abuse.
- Hazy Shade of Winter-Bangles-could be on the list, but isn't really on theme other than the rockin guitar.
- Sweet Dreams-Eurythmics talks about abuse
- Zombie by the Cranberries--talks about violence of war rather than sexual violence, but still not quite jock rock.
- Hit me with your best shot-Pat Benetar is about love relationships, but might be passable.
- Middle of the Road-Pretenders might be o.k., but doesn't feel exactly pump up.
Wasted too much time on this rabbit hole this morning.
Possible contenders
- Get Ur Freak On-Missy Elliot
- Cibo Matto Sugar Water
- Toxic Britney Spears
Rejects
- L7-Wargasm-talks about the first gulf war. They seem upset about it. Not really a pump-up song and not appropriate for kids at all.
- Milkshake-Kelis someone just told me that milkshake is a reference to her pudenda.
- TLC-Waterfalls--about drug deals and unprotected sex and probably not really a pump-up song.
- Material Girl by Madonna-about conspicuous consumption and also sex I think.
- Walk Like an Egyptian-Bangles--a thoughtful discussion of ancient Egyptian funerary art maybe not great as a pump-up if subject is not of interest.
Goose and Grateful Dead ;)
Slightly biased because I know the songwriter, but it's probably too long for a between-the-innings playlist. (This also works for when a hockey team takes to the ice for an up-tempo, pre-game skate around the rink.)
There's a shorter version with a female lead singer.
And then there's this one (with a video showing parts of Ann Arbor and the Michigan campus):
