OT: Lou Holtz has COVID-19. [LOCKED]

Which is a tremendous shock to millions of people who didn’t even realize he was still alive. 

[Edit @10:50am]: I locked this one up for the following reasons:

1) politics----ugh!

2) ugliness of several comments, some about Holtz and some of the back-and-forth stuff.

3) POLITICS!  Isn't there enough of it everywhere else if you have the appetite to engage in ugly political s**t!?

Some warnings are likely to be issued in the mod sticky after I dissect the thread---I'm either going to delete or edit the ugliest stuff, maybe practically everything other than the OP headline.

This is the most on-target comment in the thread IMO. Thoughtsh and prayertsh are exactly what Holtz and his compatriots (ranging from John Ioannidis to Scott Atlas to ... most of the Dakotas) figured would be enough to get us through the pandemic and preserve our "freedoms."

Have sympathy for the human beings who took every precaution to avoid contracting covid and still got it through no fault of their own

Have sympathy for the doctors, nurses, and front line workers who are forced into danger every day during the pandemic but who work to keep the rest of us safe

Don't have sympathy for a reckless old man who gives maskless speeches at trump rallies in the midst of a pandemic, thinking there will be no consequences. That's like seeing a report of a drunk driver killing three people in a crash and hoping the driver isn't too banged up

Right there with you, Cue. Way too many people who think their political beliefs entitle them to act morally superior. And believe that mocking is somehow the same as actual reason. Who can hide behind handles and avatars and say things they would never say to someones face. This behavior is one of the true curses of our times.

On a separate note...where is the best place to order burnt ends?

To whom or to which comment are you referring? Perhaps I overlooked the post saying that Trump actually won. Or perhaps you just gratuitously dropped the comment in here because an actual thread on the subject is outside the rules for this board. There are thousands, if not millions, of comment boards devoted to politics so if that's what you want to discuss, hang out there.

Why should we feel bad? Ever notice that it's almost exclusively one political party, that has called the virus a hoax and said that masks don't work, that is getting covid? I think it's safe to say based on Holtz's past comments that he likely wasn't really taking precautions

First of all, best wishes to Lou on a healthy recovery.

This got me though, from a related article:

"Holtz, an 83-year-old former college football coach..."

83 years old. That means he was 51 when they won the title in 1988. That means in this picture, Lou is the same age as Dabo Swinney currently. Wow.

Agree. You can hate every political thing a person says, every football thing he ever did, but this sort of "ha ha you got a possibly deadly illness you deserved it" is trash.

Same asswipe who thinks college football players trying to get on the field is the same as soldiers storming the beach at Normandy. Yeah that’s definitely a guy who’s got a solid grip on reality. 

I hope he recovers. Holtz has never done wrong by me personally, but given who he supported in this election, how he mocked the religion of the guy he didn’t support as not being a “true Catholic” (whatever the hell that means), and basically gave a middle finger to public health and safety by speaking at those rallies without a mask, it’s hard for me to not say that he hasn’t gotten what he’s deserved.
