OT - Lions win as Todd Gurley makes similar mistake as the PSU RB
Gurley could have gone down on the 1 yard line with a minute left and the Lions has no timeouts remaining.
It isn’t as bad as Penn State since the Falcons would have still had to hit a chip shot FG but an NFL kicker makes that 99/100 tries.
Anyway, Lions doing the annual ritual of getting out hopes back up before they rip our hearts out again.

Joe Milton made it happen.

Nevermind
October 25th, 2020 at 4:24 PM ^
Nope. The clock was still Atlanta's biggest enemy, all they needed was a FG and a clock at or close to :00
October 25th, 2020 at 4:25 PM ^
They needed a short FG to win (down 2 at the time) and Detroit was out of timeouts. They could've sat on the ball and kicked a FG with little time on the clock and Detroit unable to freeze the kicker.

Yep, I was wrong, thats why i edited my post .

The Falcons are the new Lions until the Lions resume doing Lion things like retaining Quinn/Patricia. Let ATL wear the toilet seat of shame for a few weeks.

Thank you for acknowledging that the Falcons are the Lions of the NFL!
I keep saying that everytime Michigan-centric people on Twitter or wherever call some team in some other sport "the Lions of..." I'm like aren't the Falcons much more likely to blow a lead?
I guess I'm suffering from recency bias, where they're talking historically?!

UM and Lions win. That’s a good weekend in my book. Let’s drink!
October 25th, 2020 at 4:51 PM ^
Hooray beer!!
October 25th, 2020 at 5:11 PM ^
My fantasy team too! It's officially Oktoberfest in the Putin household!
October 25th, 2020 at 5:18 PM ^
When they lose is also an excellent opportunity to drink!

... and MSU and PSU lose. Just needed ND and OSU to lose to make a clean sweep.

AND Penn St and Michigan St both lose! If only Notre Dame and OSU found a way to lose this would have been a 1 in a million weekend.
Edit: Did not see the response that is now right above me until after submitting! Doesn't hurt to say it again and again though!

Haha, I just saw the ending and you are exactly right. The Leo’s will rope us back in just to crush our souls in weeks 15,16,17,18,19.
The life of a Lions “fan”... sigh.

Just whetting our appetites for the annual Thanksgiving Day letdown.

Lions are just gonna win enough to save Patricia and Quinns jobs and not get a pick worth anything.
October 25th, 2020 at 4:28 PM ^
Just wait till next year... they’ll DEFINITELY turn it around then.

Lions, taking it down to the wire with a one win team. Great victory, guys.
#eyeroll
October 25th, 2020 at 5:11 PM ^
Lions were a two win team. Besides it’s the NFL and they were on the road, a win is a win.
October 25th, 2020 at 5:18 PM ^
I get ya, and agree to a point. These last two wins were against bottom dwellers. Waiting for a win against a team with a heartbeat before buying into any hype.
October 25th, 2020 at 5:28 PM ^
A one win team with a loaded offense. Defense has been the issue for the falcons and the lions offense didnt look great but that offense will always be potent with Julio and Ridley on the field.
October 25th, 2020 at 4:34 PM ^
Losing that right at the end with a runoff or missing the extra point due to the penalty call would have been typical.
Stay in character, Lions.

Hats off to Stafford for capitalizing on the error. After Hockenson’s blunder I was certain it was over.

I’m sorry if this annual ritual still works on anyone

Incredibly stupid coaching by the Falcons. How do these guys get paid millions to screw up the most basic decisions? It’s mind-boggling.
October 25th, 2020 at 4:57 PM ^
Why would they not take 2 knees, spike it on 3rd down and kick a chip shot?!
October 25th, 2020 at 5:16 PM ^
Because football is, for the most part, coached by people who aren’t particularly intellligent.
October 25th, 2020 at 4:50 PM ^
Great sports weekend! Someone tell me Ryan Day got herpes at a strip club on Friday!
October 25th, 2020 at 4:54 PM ^
He apologized for scoring too many points vs Nebraska
October 25th, 2020 at 4:57 PM ^
But Nebraska out-hit them, right?
October 25th, 2020 at 5:13 PM ^
Same difference!

"I punked you but I'm apologizing, so, see, I'm a nice guy."

The kool-aid is tasty right now.
October 25th, 2020 at 4:58 PM ^
I'd say the coach should be fired for not taking a knee but they already fired one coach this year.
October 25th, 2020 at 5:52 PM ^
In both cses, it seems a coach's fault. Though Gurley stumbled a bit, why was the team trying to score?
October 25th, 2020 at 7:33 PM ^
Killing their draft chances early this year.
October 25th, 2020 at 8:07 PM ^
Just saw the clip & think it was pretty funny. A Lion DB had Gurley wrapped up after he broke through the line, then let him go. Gurley surged forward, then stopped & dropped, but part of the ball did just cross the plane. LOL.
Also, LOL: Lions further separating themselves from the bottom of the league.
October 25th, 2020 at 10:49 PM ^
With this win I think they are officially out of the Trevor Lawrence sweepstakes.
October 26th, 2020 at 1:06 AM ^
As long as Matt stays healthy they will win 6 or 7 games. Outside shot they could be competitive for a wildcard spot but it would probably be a long shot since both wildcards will come out of the NFC west. No high draft pick, very lionseque.
October 26th, 2020 at 4:11 AM ^
They’ll win just enough games so Patricia can keep his job, and they’ll be drafting low enough to where they won’t be able to get any real difference maker in the first round.
October 26th, 2020 at 10:48 AM ^
Maybe the Lions could petition to move to the NFC Least for the rest of the season and win the division at 8-8.
October 26th, 2020 at 11:38 AM ^
Wild game for sure
October 29th, 2020 at 3:01 PM ^
At least the rest of the team is somewhat off the hook. Audio indicates Ryan reminded Gurley rather emphatically to get down if he got the first down. The stumble is almost as if he was thinking about it, but decided Ryan was full of it. The coach said something about Gurley being the wrong player to use in that situation, which is interesting to think about given what the mistake was.
Any NFL playbook is so complex that there really aren't many stupid people coaching or playing. Gurley though, for all his talent, made a rather expensive blunder.
