fans already want him out, at least the ones that really follow basketball. And about the OTL allegations, the local Michigan media has no shame in terms of the cover they will give Izzo. If he took that job the OTL allegations would not even be broached locally, and nobody cares about MSU nationally. The only way he has to answer for it really is if he stays to coach what is going to be a super shitty basketball team that gets its ass kicked twice by Michigan. Not a great deal for him. If they offer I bet he goes, and really it might be better for everyone if he does.

No way Tom leaves MSU... He seems to have escaped the sexual assault scandal unscathed and I think wants to stick around as long as possible to spite people now.

If he leaves for Orlando, I'll eat a lemon.

article just says the magic are interested.  not that izzo is interviewing, or wants to leave, or even cares that they are interested.

reminds me of the constant stream of "harbaugh back to nfl" articles that get published.  fake news.  good job freep.

if he agrees to interview, then there's a story.

I just don't see him ever moving on. Which is fine, he's an overrated blowhard with a broken moral compass. I hope he stays until Beilein has a winning record against him (10-12 currently).

This is probably a courtesy nugget thrown out to buck up Izzo's tattered image, because I can't believe even the DeVos's or Izzo are dumb enough to try this.

I've heard rumors that Staee has come up with a shortlist of candidates to replace Izzo, including Art Briles, Jay Paterno, Rick Pitino, and a mystery candidate named "Narry Lassar." what an innovative athletics program they have!

If he was ever going to leave MSU for another Job this would be the time. Get out of MSU on your own terms, and get some NBA money for a few years before retirement. The Magic have very little expectations. I don't see him leaving, but considering what has happened the last two years for him and his teams, it would be a very appealing offer if I were him. Florida over the winter and he can walk away from any lingering issues at MSU.

I think he should take the job.  The owner is also the co-founder of Amway, so Izzo is almost guaranteed a job in two years after he fails in the NBA.

...he's running because he knew all those guys on the team were littering and kept them on the roster.  That's the only reason why he would pass over better previous coaching opportunities to coach a dead end team at the end of his career.

Honest question, why would the Magic want Izzo? He is constantly exposed for his archaic philosophy where he relies on physicality and the low post. That is the least modern NBA mentality I can think of.

They are willing to prey on vulnerable people by telling them their lives will be changed if they sell cheap knock-off consumer products to their vulnerable friends and then tell them they can change their lives too, only to all fizzle out after they've sold a few thousand dollars worth of junk that nets them maybe a couple bucks an hour of time put in hustling.

That kind of "talent" doesn't translate to many other businesses.

There I fixed it for you.

In college, he can use his ability to con high level recruits to come there where he can cruise to an easy winning schedule every year and get into the NCAA tournament.  In the NBA, where there is much more talent parity, his mediocre coaching ability will be exposed and everyone will be able to see behind the curtain.

There's no way this happens. Izzo won't work in the NBA. He knows it, and surely NBA franchises can tell, too.

Not only is his style of basketball rapidly becoming outmoded, but the way he rides his players isn't going to work at all.

It's not happening.

Because you know what they say about Izzo and March. Might as well change the name to Izzo madness because he always has his team playing at their full potential come tournament time.

Please stay Izzo!

I get the feeling that Izzo leaving would result in a Meyer-like successor. I think we've got him where we want him these days. Most of the time, anyway.

But maybe I'm being paranoid.

OSU remains the most attractive coaching job in college football due to it's nearly unfettered access to the elite talent in Ohio.

MSU basketball isn't close in terms of the institutional advantages, not to mention any incoming coach would have a mess of an athletic department (and University) that he's walking into and an in-state rival that's hitting on all cylinders.  It's not the most attractive destination right now.

And what is his coaching tree right now?  Tom Crean?  Yes, please.  Hire him.

Izzo would suck as an NBA coach, and pilfering millions would be almost typical.  He deserves to suffer some kind of loss for the role he has played in MSU's complete moral bankruptcy but probably won't.

Izzo won’t leave. I think this is also a be careful what you wish for situation. If Izzo leaves I see Molester U somehow lucking into a better coach like OSU did with Meyer.

You're probably right. The Izzo you know is better than the Urban you don't.

Although it says something about MSU basketball that Michigan fans are, at worst, neutral on Izzo staying, and that a lot of us plain prefer it.

And why not? Izzo just fielded one of the most talented teams he's ever had, featuring two lottery draft picks and a number of other pieces from his best ever recruiting class. And look how the seasons turned out for the two of us.
